Opinions on the Cloud Hyper X quadcast?

friend of mine is starting his twitch stream

and the last piece of it he needs is a decent microphone

So I watched a big microphone comparison video by HardwareCanuck and they included the Quadcast in the list. It's a fine microphone, so if he ends up getting that one, it'll do just fine.

But it's far from the best for the price ($200 or so). There are lots of good options - is he specifically looking for a USB mic? Anything from Blue is also really good - as is the AT2020 (there's a USB variant).

As others have noted, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND getting an adjustable Boom Arm for the Mic as well - you can find no-name Chinese variants on Amazon or eBay for quite cheap, but you gotta be careful about weight requirements. I have one of the NEEWER ones from Amazon and it just barely holds my MXL 770 w/ pop-filter at maximum tension.

Samson makes some arms that are better, but they're obviously more expensive.

I would also recommend a shock mount, if the Boom Arm or Mic doesn't come with one, and a Pop Filter (Nylon Screen ones are just fine).

Those things will improve the quality of his stream by reducing "plosives" (PUH sounds, which are caused by rushing air), reducing vibration caused by keyboard typing, desk shuffling, etc, and it'll make it really easy to reposition the Mic when needed.

The best mic is probably the Aston Stealth but it's a little pricey,
The 'good on a budget' option is probably the rode podmic.

Both of the previous require an audio interface though so I'd probably suggest the Samson Q2U, AT2005 or MB88U.

If you want to go stupid cheap, Get the Neewer NW-8000 USB sounds amazing for a $25 USB condenser. Basically a BM-800 with a USB interface built into it.

Or if you want something small you can just clip on, get the Sony ECM-CS3 for $20.
