1080ti vs 3070

Derrk

i play on a 4k 60fps monitor, mostly enjoy single player rpg games. I'm mostly happy with my 1080ti, but for some games, i can't get all of the details i want and still have around 50+ fps. I want to wait for reviews and AIB cards, but would this be a reasonable upgrade, or should i still wait for next gen?

using a 2700x, i might get next gen ryzen eventually, because i theoretically can keep the same motherboard (x470), but in 4k the gpu is doing most of the heavy lifting anyway. 2700x is still more than plenty in all applications i use.

thoughts?

Wait for extensive reviews, also there might be a 3060 coming as well so we will have to wait and see.

i plan to wait for reviews, but i also don't want to wait so long everything is sold out, and i have to buy aftermarket. 3060 is a thought but i have the budget for a 3070, and the sound of it outperforming a 2080 sounds good to me

Yes but I am afraid with early drivers you would see your system crash more often than not and with the 20 series there were several cards that produced artifacts after a couple of weeks of normal use. You would be safer with a 2080 Super or 2080 Ti, should the prices drop right after launch. Otherwise go for the 3070, you still have that 1080 Ti as a backup should something happen.

3070 gonna be even faster than 2080 ti so no comparison with 1080 ti by a long shot

i know.. guess i'm just skeptical about how much more performance i'll get.. can probably still sell the 1080ti for ~$250-300 USD so 3070 wouldn't cost me too much.. just dont let spending money these days with all the uncertainty of the current world

You'll get just slightly better performance than if you put a 2080TI in your system. That's how much more performance you'll get.

It'd be a decent upgrade at relatively low cost once you factor in selling your old card. I'd go for it.

If you wait for next gen after a launch like this, you'll always be waiting. Are you really willing to wait another 2 years?

Early drivers are not that bad. Prices won't drop that far after launch, since Nvidia has no reason to offer kickbacks; they've already sold their core, and they cease production long before they release new cards. Retailers will barely have any units left on hand, and will likely wait for Black Friday to sell them off...even then, they'll have a hard time. It makes no sense to overpay for a graphics card using "early drivers" as an excuse.

The 3060 would barely be better than what he has now. Why would he wait for that?
