Budget: About 1100

Country: Latvia

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Mostly for gaming- GTAV, Escape from Tarkov, Lineage II, WoT, CS:GO etc. And a bit for music production- Renoise, FL Studio. Running on Windows 10 Home.

Other details: Planning to finish this build till end of the year so few parts can still change. In future maybe I'll upgrade to 3-monitor setup. For now using one 1920x1080 resolution and 72hz.

CPU : AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT

GPU : Gigabyte Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB

Motherboard MSI X470 GAMING PLUS MAX

Memory G.Skill Ripjaws V 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600

SSD Silicon Power A60 256 GB M.2-2280 NVME (only for OS) ; In future i plan to add another 1TB or 2TB M.2 NVME SSD

Power Supply Cooler Master MWE White 750 W

CPU Cooler : For now stock Wraith Spire cooler ; In future upgrade to Deepcool GAMMAXX L240 V2

CASE Deepcool E-Shield ATX Mid Tower

So, wanted to know if this setup is any good. Also i have a few questions:

  • Is there big difference between Radeon RX 5700 XT and RTX 2070 Ventus GP 8GB, because looking at benchmarks RX 5700 XT makes better price to performace rating. Also looked at RTX 2060 Windforce OC 6GB, which is about 100€ cheaper, but still can't choose between these three. Well, let's see RTX 3070 price, but i doubt it'll be a good bargain in my country.
  • Also, is DDR4-3600mhz compatible with AMD Ryzen 5 3600XT? AMD says it's only compatible up to 3200mhz, yet other information say its compatible with higher system memory speeds. Anyway, don't know much about this, so asking do i need this RAM or is there better choice for my setup?
  • Then the PSU, will 750W be enough for this build?
  • Is Deepcool GAMMAXX L240 V2 any good? Or should i choose another, maybe a little bit expensive water cooler?

Wait for ampere to launch and check what the 3070 has to offer, since it has been announced.

Yes, it's just anythinge over 3200 is technically an overclock to the imc but zen 2's imc should handle it easily.

Yes, you don't need 750w and this unit is a budget unit not made for this system, a better psu that is lower wattage is better. but again, wait for ampere to launch.

Stick with the 5700XT, same performance, better price.

Or wait until new GPUs are released form AMD (coming later this year).

Or go for a 3070 for 499$ for A LOT more performance.

Maybe NVIDIA will launch their 3060 in Q4 2020 aswell.

A lot of options right now.

If someone did not use reason to reach their conclusion in the first place, you cannot use reason to convince them otherwise.

Hello the Ryzen 3600 XT is probably not worth the extra performance, you could save some money by going the 3600 but up to you

Although the 5700xt was intended to competed with the 2060, it ended up beating the 2070 on average, and was only 9% slower than the 2070 super.

Either AMD's going to capitalize on this and try to compete with the 3070 for a lower price, or they'll go back to the intended rival in the 3060 and try to compete with that instead. So there's really no telling whether the 5700xt's successor is going to be a 3070 or a 3060 tier card.

It was intended to compete with the 2070, whereas the 5700 non-XT wasn't really competing against anything from Nvidia since it was more expensive than the 2060, until they decided to cut the prices pre-launch because of the Super lineup.

Well, in most of my local shops it's only about 35€ more than 3600 for now. Not so much money for a bit extra performance.

As for Graphics cards, thanks for all responses, i'll wait and see what's coming up.

Not really, X570 has full pcie gen 4 support (some ASUS B450 and X470 boards support gen 4 but not officially) which you might want if you plan on going with a 3000 series gpu or a new NVME PCIe gen 4 NVMe SSD

The maximum memory frequency will depend on the processor and to a smaller degree, the quality of the motherboard.

Ryzen 3xxx processors should support 3600 Mhz just fine, so it's up to how well the motherboard is built. That particular motherboard should be able to handle 3600 Mhz.

X470 chipset's only benefit is that it supports SLI and can split the 16 pci-e lanes going to video card slot into 2 pci-e x16 slots each with 8 pci-e lanes.

Other than this, it's pretty much the same deal as

However, due to the cost of the SLI licensing, and the extra cost of chipset, motherboard manufacturers often tried to keep the price down by lowering the vrm quality, or using cheaper onboard audio.

B550 chipset also allows splitting the pci-e x16 slot into 2 pci-e x8, but few motherboards actually implement this. However, being newer more modern designs, majority of B550 motherboards support 3600 Mhz or higher memory sticks and will come with better onboard audio and a lot of them also have 2.5g ethernet and more usb connectors, maybe good wifi ac wireless (depends on board)

You should be able to get a much better b550 board for cheaper, or for a few euro more.  Look for Gigabyte b550m / b550 aorus pro ... hardware unboxed youtube channel recently did 3 videos with a lot of b550 motherboards where they reviewed the vrm performance, how much they heat, how well they handle powerful processors. Check those out.

x570 is also an option, there's some cheaper boards that are good like Asus x570 tuf plus  or gigabyte x570 aorus elite

x570 gives pci-e 4.0 lanes to everything on the board,

b550 gives pci-e 4.0 to video card and first m.2 connector, pci-e 3.0 to everything else ...

that's pretty much only difference..  may be 1-2 extra usb and sata ports difference but that's all.

B550 would be perfectly fine for your needs.
