Build Planning in Preparation for RTX 3070

Budget (including currency): $2400 CAD (including tax and shipping, BC sales tax is 12%)

Country: Canada

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Gaming at 1440p (CS:GO, Stellaris, Tarkov, Cyberpunk 2077) and school work (MS Office, Premiere Pro, Photoshop)

Other details: Already have a 1440p, 165Hz G-sync monitor, and all other peripherals. Just need the tower itself.

Hey y'all. After several grueling months of summer job work, I've saved up some cash for my first custom PC build. I'm upgrading from an older MSI gaming laptop with a 1060 6GB and a 6700HQ because I want to take full advantage of my new monitor, and so I can be prepared for this year's big game launches. I've put together a little parts list, minus the GPU, and I was wondering if I could get some feedback. I'm planning to buy an RTX 3070 when they become available in October, so I've allocated ~$700 of room in my build for that. Here's what I have so far:

Switch out the case for a P300A, P400A, Meshify C, Lian Li Lancool II, or beQuiet! Dark Base 500 DX.

I suppose that's true. I'm not super attached to it, and AMD has guaranteed B550 compatibility, so I guess I won't worry.

as @rapidkillerx had said, waiting for zen 3 is probably the better decision

as for you list here are a few changes

notes:

- got the pro 4 for $5 more, so why not

- the tomahawk isnt really needed for a 6 core, this board should do fine even with the likes of the 3950x (before anyone ask why not the b550 a pro because its cheaper, its 1$ CAD cheaper at the time of making this list)

Spoiler

image.thumb.png.1fe0623c33d553016dc9c06d455b0aa7.png

- ditched the RGB tax on the RAM
- more ssd storage for not much more than the 970 evo
- better airflow case and comes with 3 fans

- cheaper but still a pretty good psu

- also left you extra for a possible 3080 purchase

Uuaaahhrrgghh, stay far far far away from the seagate barracuda compute disks D: I'm pretty sure (looking at amazon reviews) that the exact disk you've chosen uses SMD wich will greatly mess with your read speeds. Sadly I don't really have any suggestion other than looking at maybe a firecuda or some WD drive but there are SMDs on both seagates and WDs sides so read some reviews before you buy the disk.

Other than that I think the updated parts list looks good, waiting for the upcoming amd chips is probably the best option honestly, unless you want to upgrade your cpu in a few months time.
