New power supply question

joshlowe552

Hello all, need to buy a psu today.

Current specs are:

Cpu 9900k

Asus tuf Z390

2 nvme Samsung 970 evo's

Evga black rtx 2070 super

Hope that's the right format for that. Anywho I'm considering getting a rtx 3080 or 3090 in Sept. Have a EVGA 750 G+ in the system now. Should I go for something larger? Also I'm buying one regardless to replace the 10 year old psu in the gf's computer. Hope all that makes sense.

welcome to the forums!

even a 650 watt should be more than enough for the system, no need to go higher than 750 though. if you need suggestions the RM650x, Straight power 11 650 watt are solid units.

located in the US?

really 650w is plenty for that build. tho currently there are some exceptional deals on certain PSUs, tho the extra wattage is entirely unnecesary

The 750 you have is more than adequate for that build. The only reason you will ever need more than that is if you start doing some ridiculous overclocking, add a second GPU, or both.

@Oswin thanks! I'll check out that straight power 11.

@GoldenLag thanks and yes in the US. Guess I'll order a 650w

this is currently is a steal, but the wattage is technically entirely unneccesary.

same unit, its about as good as the straight power 11 gold iirc. id avoid the straight power 11 platinum as its actually a worse unit than the straight power 11 gold.

the DF is currently a really good buys.

@GoldenLag thank you. Just ordered that 650w you linked. thanks again everyone

Should have waited until the 3080 or 3090 actually came out, after market cards etc to see exactly what they pull power wise.
