Country: USA

Games, programs or workloads that it will be used for: Games and some Content Creation(SFM and 3d modeling ).

Other details Storage needs are already covered

My friend is gathering parts for a new PC. His only limiting factor is the price of each part(Each part must be less than $500). A couple of friends and I compiled this list. Any suggestions on what we should change? He also needs WiFi 5 or WiFI 6. This will also be his first build of if that is important to anyone.

Why is there a $500 budget for each part and not just an overall budget? Seems really weird to me. Is your friend planning on overclocking at all? Because if not then I'd say that an X570 board is a little overkill for what he is putting in it. Oh also, I would consider a slightly more powerful PSU to a 550W.

Would suggest waiting for the new gpu launches very soon. If not, the 5700XT is a much better value option.

Would also suggest a better PSU and probably a cheaper B550 motherboard

Board is complete overkill. Power supply should be at least 500-550W.

Why would you spend more on a motherboard than the CPU, you can get a B450 Tomahawk Max that works perfectly fine for a 3600.

 

Also that case has bad airflow, get a p300a or a meshify C. 

 

You should also get a better PSU for the hardware you have picked

Motherboard really isn't overkill like most are saying. Cheapest motherboard that actually has wifi 5 or 6 built in that still an ATX and not mico-ATX is only $20 cheaper. (and that board's only review had some big concern's like the fact the battery died after 1 month)

 

Don't cheap out on the PSU, also if you want a really clean build I would get a fully modular PSU.

He's buying the parts over time, which is why its $500 per part. Hes not planning to overclock at all. And any suggestions for a good PSU?

Does not change anything. Youll of course get much nicer pc with 3000d than with a more limited budget. And new parts come out all the time, good value now might be bad two months in.

Tell him to wait until he has money for everything, then get all the parts at once.

That still makes no sense. Tell your friend to create a maximum budget for the build because having a flat budget per part is going to cause problems in my opinion. He can still buy parts over time but having an overall budget in mind will make things easier. I recently upgraded my own PC over time, so I gave myself a £1500 budget for PC parts and a new monitor. Because of the pandemic and new parts being released this year I didn't want to buy everything straight away, but I had a solid idea of what I needed it for and the budget allowed me to stay on track. I have a word document with it in and every time I bought I new part I put it in the document and took it off the overall budget. Now I'm almost finished with the only thing I need is a new graphics card, and £400 to spend on it.

Maybe a meshify c or a phanteks p400a (i think that’s what it’s called) or a rosewill spectra
