Correlation between FPS and Refresh Rate?

Can someone clear something up for me. Currently im using a 60Hz TV as my monitor as i dont have the space for a seperate monitor and tv (1 bedroom flat problems)

Am i right in thinking that even though my rig is capable of running most games above 60fps that due to the 60Hz of my TV those extra frames wont actually do anything beyond fps stability as it were?(as in if im technically runinng at 120fps its unlikley to dip below 60)

It wont look better or smoother or anything no. It will only look as good as 60, or perhaps worse if it is out of sync from a multiple of 60 in which case you will get screentearing.

You cant technically get better information from the screen quicker in games, relying through screen tear which is why a lot of people leave it uncapped, but i always thought that was stupid.

Higher framerates above the refresh rate can cause screen tearing but it also means a more up to date frame is stored in the monitor's buffer.

Instead of max 16.6ms for 60fps you can cut that down to 8.33ms at 120fps.

Even though you won't see 120fps it will still make the game feel more responsive because you're seeing a more recent image.

So essentially there is less "input lag" between the computer and what you see with your eyes.
