I guess.... what are you asking exactly? 

 

Yes, you can create RAM disks in software, yes they are really fast, yes they are annoying because if your PC looses power you loose everything on it lol.

there's tools that can turn your GPU RAM into ramdisks too, and it's really nothing special unless you have a highly specific use case for it that honestly I can only think of for one specific use. Not worth it imo.

that's cool and all but like, at that point, I still cant see how it's useful for the average user. For me it'd be great because I can make img files of different installers and save them locally with no hassle but still even then it just really laks a use case

okay but you need enough RAM to be able to use it which is unlikely seeing as most users stick with 16GB

No problem :). But like, I guess, whats the point? The issue is it can't save it out as a img file all the time, so if power is ever lost you lose what you were working on since your last "backup". Some applications definitely can utilize it, but I would think most that would be able to use it, would need A LOT of space, and at that point their software would likely be built to just utilize the RAM as RAM and not expect it to be a storage device. It is cool though.

Used these for PCMark05 for the HDD test and just get blazing awesome scores.

 

However when the battery dies, you loose all the information.

If its in RAM.... as soon as the PC looses power, your data in RAM dies with it. If you have a UPS or something to keep power going during a short power outage, itll be fine yes. But that is assumes you have a UPS/battery backup.

Ramdisk is nice, I used it to cache my Nvidia shadowplay

because doing it on hard disk and sad wears them out

the idea of WEAR protection actually sounds like a valid reasoning, if you have EXTREME amounts of data being short time cached in an ramdisk area, insted of completely destroying the lifetime of your SSD, could be a solution, if the software does not allow just to use it in normal RAM allocation.
