Is there any alternatives to a capture card or cheaper ones

Kanna

Want to be able to just hook up my 360 and record using obs but capture cards can be expensive is there a workaround or any good cards for a lower price

Reminder⚠️

I'm just speaking from experience so what I say may not work 100%

Buying something like this will get you wonderful results in terms of video quality. You could go for some really cheap alternatives for around 70 dollars, but you will regret it, when you see the footage. Sadly there is no good alternative, that I know of and I did a lot of research. You are going to have to save up.

You need a proper HDMI capture card.

The reason a lot of the old ones are expensive is because they're really a FPGA device and a PCI bridge device.

https://www.startech.com/AV/Converters/Video/pcie-hdmi-capture-card~PEXHDCAP60L2 $306USD

Where as USB capture devices are usually a fixed-function device that emulate a "webcam" in the host system.

https://www.amazon.com/Elgato-Game-Capture-HD60-technology/dp/B01DRWCOGA

So you can find cheaper devices, but they're usually laggy and unusable without a splitter to play on an actual separate TV/monitor simultaneously.

I have a bit of a write-up on a potential option here: https://linustechtips.com/main/profile/265114-ryan_vickers/?status=269909&type=status

The comments include additional information beyond that provided in the OP.

Please keep in mind the limitations so you can judge if this is right for you or not.  They are quite affordable, but even a free product can be bad value if it doesn't do what you need.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I imported a cheap $10 USB 2.0 1080P capture card from China and it worked well enough to capture video even from my HDCP protected PS4, which not even my old Elgato GameCapture could do.

EposVox did a good video on the cheap stuff:
