Should I get an i5-9600k or wait for i7-10700k?

Hi guys

I'm new to this community and wanted to ask you guys if i should upgrade right now for an i5-9600k until winter to upgrade an i7-10700k or just wait for the i7?

Specs

1. CPU - 2009 i7-950 3.05 MHz

2. GPU - (2 or SLI) EVGA GTX 1070 Black Edition OC

3. Power supply - 550Watts corsair

4. CPU cooler - Corsair h100 doing a push and pull 240mm x 2 top and bottom

5. RAM - 24 DDR3-2000 MHz

I know its a really old System but I've been waiting for an upgrade for along time now because I've been doing a lot more heavy task work stations and I was really getting into flight simulators but will run 5-20 FPS in Very low setting in

X-plane 11.

If you have any Recommendation for me please comment to me and tell me which CPU to upgrade for me.

Thank you.

If i did some thing wrong plz tell me

I would wait until the Winter, if that's when you feel like you can do the proper upgrade. By that time, AMD's Zen 3 CPUs will also likely have been released, so you might have even more options to upgrade to.

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Neither. Either wait for Zen 3 ina month or get a 3700X. Pretty much the same performance as a 10700K with half the heat/power draw and a much cheaper board and CPU combo.

Are flight sim games you play single threaded optimized?  If so I could understand wanting to stick with intel - but note that any CPU change to current generation will require a new motherboard and RAM at a minimum as well - the rest can transfer over.  If the games you play (and workstation tasks) benefit from core count...I highly suggest looking into AMD for bang for buck return on investment

So i've been playing/flying with x plane for about 2/3 years now. And looking at your current specs if you get a good cpu you will be able to get a steady 35+ in climb/cruise the sim only really becomes gpu limited in taxi/approach i use a i7-9700k and it is perfect for the price. i would recommend you get the i7-9700k and you will be able to get 30+fps almost anywhere with almost max settings.

you really wont need anything more powerful then the 10700k for x plane after you get that cpu you will become GPU limited. With a 10700k and a gtx1070 you will be able to run almost max setting with a steady 30+ fps almost anywhere,

@DonnyTM xplane was actually designed on intel so you will actually get better performance with intel if you are only looking to use your pc for xplane

I wouldn't go below 6c/12t, so 10th gen Core i5 (e.g. 10500,10600,10600K) if you must go Intel.

i would say wait if possible, and check what zen 3 has to offer and how demanding the game is.

but for the most part i would avoid coffee lake when switching to a new platform.

I mean, try to tell him that brand bias is a poor mentality and that judging current products by something he heard 20 years ago is foolish at best.

But I'd you're stuck on intel, get a 10600K and beefy cooling.

That's not even a good deal for a used Z370 Hero, and the 9600K is a really bad buy in this day and age.

If you want to go with Intel and you're just gaming, get a 10600K, an NH-U12S chromax.black or Dark Rock 4 to go along with it (since it doesn't include a stock cooler), 2x8GB memory kit (3200 CL14 would be really good, cheap 3600 CL16 would be good but 3200 CL16 is also alright) and a Z490 Gaming Edge WIFI or Z490 Vision G. This is ignoring AMD's upcoming Zen 3 and Intel's upcoming Rocket Lake-S.

So you think its better to buy a i5-10600k with a z490 motherboard and 3200 Mhz of ram when its christmas i can Just get the i7-10700k

and i can give my father the i5-10600k for a future build

Also i wanted to get all my parts to my local Micro Center because their processors, motherboard, and Ram are alot cheaper than Amazon and Newegg combined.

The 10600K is just as good for gaming, and I don't see even AAA games needing more than 12 threads to run optimally for quite a while.

Not really. Only I'd you're using a 2080 To at 1080p. In all other cases, the CPU vendor is irrelevant

I wouldn't worry about X-Plane 11 anymore. MSFS is just around the corner and is optimized for more than 4 cores.

Even if you don't like AMD, the price to perf is just too good.

that is partially x-plane's poor optimization. Is that an 11.50 or 11.41?

I know you don't like AMD, but get a 3700X, you won't regret it.

MSFS will take advantage of all the cores.

that'll work too! The two are equivalent roughly for multithreaded so the 10700K will do just as well in MSFS most likely, just at higher temps and power consumption.

Just curious though, what XP11 version are you on? In the interim, I'd try Vulkan if you aren't using it already
