I SPILLED SOME WATER ONTOP OF MY PC PLEASE HELP!!!!

I was holding a cup of water and some spilled out!!!!! Not a lot, in fact not even half the cup it was more like 1/10 of the cup. I quickly turned my pc off and flipped off my psu. I opened the front panel and started to dry off all the water I could see, (once again, not a lot) my motherboard like flickered for a second, maybe that’s normal, but all in all, I am TERRIFIED to turn it on. I can’t even see any more water, my dust filter caught most of it, I’m just really not sure what to do. PLEASE HELP.

Best thing you can do is to leave it for like 48 hours.  Make sure there's really no more water.  If you're lucky, it'll turn back on again.

I've known people that have spilled entire coffees into their machines, unplugged right away, dumped distilled water in (to clean off all the sugar) and then follow it up with a couple bottles of isopropyl alcohol and have them survive.

It's really just chance at this point.

Okay, calm down. Unplug the power supply from all of the other components. If you can, take out the graphics card and CPU cooler, and the storage. Get a fan in there. Wait 48 hours.

Okay, might have lied about the water. It was juice. And the water from that juice is gone and I think it just left sugar stains? Only a bit though on the top of my front fan. Also I’m pretty sure like I only spilled 1/15 from the cup. Everything looks fine? I guess? I’m gonna take the back off of my pc and inspect more.

You could put it in rice, to get rid of remaining water (if there is any). I've never tried it before, but I've heard about.

Honestly I'm 90% sure this is bullshit at this point.  Never have I seen this actually work.  In theory it sounds great but in practice it doesn't really happen.

Your best bet is to remove any power source and open it up as much as possible to get everything dry.  Maybe even point a fan at it.

I recently had the pleasure of taking a laptop entirely apart for a friend since he spilled soy sauce all over it and it had gotten to every corner of his machine (you could say he had sticky keys turned on permanently after that). He got lucky though because the only permanent damage was an RGB light that no longer works.

From how little you've mentioned you spilled, my guess is you will still be fine. That said though, what do you mean with "flicker"?

I have a b550 ROG STRIX F WIFI, and when I turned off the pc and turned off the psu, like, 15-30 seconds later the little rog logo on the motherboard turned on and was yellow for like 1 second. I hope that was nothing. :(

If water spilled in my PSU, I probably wouldn't even try to save it. Let alone putting rice into it. lmao

I think I’ve cleaned all of the spill, there was a tiny bit on the motherboard but it was just on a stand-off. Im really scared right now, I know I should calm down, but this is really taking a toll on me because I’m only 15 and I’ve been wanting a pc for years I only got my pc 2 weeks ago.

Basically do exactly what @BlueScope819 said.

Take it apart as much as you can and let it air dry for a couple of days. After that, visually inspect everything and wipe any stains/corrosion with a bit of isopropyl alcohol. Then let it dry for a few more days. Then try turning it on.

But please, if any liquid at all got into the psu, get a new one.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

the spill  in the front of pc, so it didn’t go anywhere near the psu, and so far I’ve just taken no components off because (this is probably going to annoy you) but I physically can’t at this moment. I think I’m having a panic attack. I’ve taken both side panels off and have just been looking, and I really really wish I had isopropyl alcohol but I don’t. I’ll send pictures of my pc in a second.

What have you done so far? Clean the bit on the motherboard by the standoff with isopropol alcohol and let dry.

Did my text glitch? Sorry. I said, I’ve taken both side panels off. I would take my components off but I have really bad panic attacks so I can’t right now. I’ve included some pictures of what my pc looks like, the one where I’m pointing is where I spilled it and the standoff is where some of it was. I WISH I had isopropyl alcohol but I don’t. And that’s really bad. I’m sorry I’m not taking my components off I’m just really scared. I’m only 15, plus most of it landed on the top of my huge ass graphics card ( which has a plastic top) (yeah I cleaned it) so it didn’t go on the psu/cpu. Thank you guys so much for helping me I really appreciate it.

That’s ok, as long as it’s not turned on, no more damage can occur. Do whatever you need to do and try to calm down. You’ve done everything right so far with turning it off immediately and turning off the psu. I can’t promise anything but it sounds like it’s not too bad and should be fine if you let it dry.

Could you order a bottle on amazon? Waiting for it to ship would be good timing to let it do the initial air drying.

That stain doesn’t look like juice to me. I believe that is a common mark on motherboards from oil on your fingers when installing the motherboard.

Based on the pictures and what you said, I believe there is a high chance of it working after letting it dry. It seems like the juice likely fell through the slot for the case fan and landed on the graphics card backplate. Because no electronics are exposed on that backplate, it is unlikely that liquid did reach anything bad.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

The oily stains aren't hand oils, it's flux from the soldering process. If for some reason you leave oily stains on everything you touch, please wash your hands more often.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That stain actually was droplets of juice. The reason it created that weird stain was because I was trying to soak it up with a q-tip. But still, i think it’s going to be good. Ty for the advice!!!!!

I’m going to try to turn it on. Once again, I’ve had 2 fans blowing on it for about 3 1/2 minutes now, and once again, it’s not like I spilled a gallon of water on it. It was merely sprinkle. I’ve dried off every part I could find too.

Please wait at least a day or two. Liquid could be hiding anywhere in there. If it does not have enough time to dry properly and there is liquid somewhere in there, it might damage your system.
