Why do Monitors need external bricks?

Why do many gaming monitors still require external bricks? According to many reviews/tests, they use at most 30W. Even a small usbc brick can do that in a tiny package but the monitor bricks are HUGE. why? also, why can't they make them internal?

Because it lets manufacturer make super thin monitors/tvs by having the power supply outside of it.

are you checking the amperage or just the wattage on those bricks

I assume it's cheaper to make it a bit larger. It also depends on the specific monitor, I have one with a fairly small brick.

 

A lot of monitors also have built-in speakers which need power and aren't typically accounted for in power testing (since most people don't use them anyway).

You sure they're just 30W?

I've heard they use 100W+ especially high refresh rate ones.

 

Manufacturers make them external to make the monitor slimmer and reduce manufacturing costs.

Much easier to just package a power brick with it than to design custom power circuitry to fit inside the monitor.

1080p 60hz ones may only use 30W but higher res and brightness often mean 100W+.

my 1440p 60hz max power draw is 75W

Really depends on the model, doing so this way would reduce manufacturing cost and help reduce monitor thickness. I mean of the 6+ gaming monitors I've owned only 1 has had a power brick, so I don't know how common it actually is.
