Yeah, as said, streaming is you uploading encoded video to server. You could get familiar with software record, then upload. That allows better quality video and you getting to know all about the software and hardware you are using. Uploading to YT or other video services will still be painfully slow with 2-3Mbps upload speed.

im wanting to start streaming pc games for fun on either youtube or twitch below are my current system specs

Current PC spec. in my profile.
Can I realistically call myself a gamer, if I only play ONE, twenty year old game...?

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

You need a twitch or youtube account. Set up something like OBS, have a mic and good upload speed. That's it.

Everything else, is optional. Webcam, lighting, soundboard, sound dampening foam, second monitor for monitoring, etc.

If you're just starting out, don't just go out to buy stuff, wait a while and build an audience first. At least that way, if it doesn't work out, you didn't really lose anything.

(Unless your mic is utter shit and all they hear is crackling on stream...)

The most important part is your upload speed. If your carrier is one of those shitty ISP that provide 100 Mbps in Download but only 1 Mbps for Upload... You're gonna have a bad time. Because Streaming rely primarily on Upload speed. Meaning if your upload speed is bad, forget playing multiplayer games, your stream will use up all the bandwidth available and you'll lag out.

Really, the main factor is how entertaining you can be. That's something you can't buy.

I you are serious, id get a 2nd monitor, and it can be a cheep one. that way you can have a view of your stream/obs and have your game on the other. or get 2 g9s, and have a stupid monitor setup.

I could use some help with this!

please, pm me if you would like to contribute to my gpu bios database (includes overclocking bios, stock bios, and upgrades to gpus via modding)

Oof... If you want to stream in 480p, it's good enough I suppose.

Sorry, but looks like before streaming, you'll need to change your internet plan.

You'll need a bit more than that, at the very least 5 Mbps, for 720p/30fps at a "modest" bitrate that doesn't look like complete dogshit on Twitch.

Youtube allow for a bit more leeway and your upload speed barely fits the bill for that. But I'm not expecting it to look any better.

Ideally, you'd want 10+ Mbps in upload, this allows plenty of bandwidth even for 1080p/60 streaming and for online multiplayer games.

The download speed barely matter for streaming, if you can find one that's 20~40 Mbps in download but offer a lot more in Upload speed for a similar price, it would be better for this specific use case. (unless you live with a bunch of people who want to watch youtube/netflix at the same time)
