Can it be salvaged

So I was in our family's storage closet this morning, looking for something that could play a dvd of something, when i stumbled upon an old HP Pavilion. Naturally i went straight to opening it up, other than some ungodly cable management, and 7-9 years of dust, the computer (which made it through 7 moves) was not so greatly specked out to say the least, i mean it was probably great in 2009, but 6GB of ddr2 is pretty bad by today's standards. the mobo can take up to 8 gigabytes of ddr2, and it uses the integrated graphics of an original AMD Phenom X4, a 640Gb western digital hdd, a 300W non modular power supply with colored cables, empty space where the cd burner, and optical drive were (the whole reason i was looking for it), Windows Vista 64 bit, and the rest of the pictures can speak for themselves. anyway, just wondering if i can do anything with this, i mean, at the very least i need another hard drive, because the only reason my dad will buy a new computer (mostly) is because the hdd is full.

Do you have a goal in mind? that system is enough if upgraded for basic tasks or a nas or simmilar.

If you want to use it as a pc, probably just add a ssd and some ram

If you want a nas, just add more drives.

What do you mean, exactly, by 'salvaged'...?

I frequently edit any posts you may quote; please check for anything I 'may' have added.

Did you test boot it, before you built in into the case?

WHY NOT...?!

If you want to revive it and use it as a machine for light browser work, I would throw in a small ssd (120 should be good) and load up cloud ready (chrome os clone) or a light linux as the os.

You could also experiment with Linux, retro video games, or make it a server.

I actually asked a similar question a few weeks ago but I can’t find the post. There were a bunch of good ideas there if you want to search for it.

I am far from an expert in this so please correct me if I’m wrong.

Yup... like @KhakiHat said, new PSU/drives & it's a good 'un.

Make a copy of the Recovery Media, too... that way you won't need a new OS licence.
