Budget Build (First Build)

Darth Hideous

Hey guys,

So this is the first time I've really built a computer from the ground up so wanted to share with you guys. It's a super budget build (perks of being a uni student), so it's nothing special.

All parts were purchased from Umart

APU: AMD A8-6600K Quad Core APU BLACK EDITION

RAM: Crucial DDR3 PC12800-8GB Kit (2x4GB)

PSU: 500W (comes with case)

HDD: Western Digital Blue 1TB

Motherboard: Gigabyte F2A85XM-D3H

Case: Casecom  CJ341-B Blue Gaming Case

Monitor: 22" Dell 2209WA

Keyboard: Ducky Shine 3 (Blue LED/Cherry MX Blue)

Mouse: Razer DeathAdder 2013

Total cost was $387AUD (excluding peripherals). I know everything is really low end but as time progresses I'm hoping to upgrade parts gradually. Hoping within the next week to upgrade to an SSD for the OS/apps. Then definitely looking for a new case and PSU. Any suggestions for some cheap upgrades?

I know it's not even remotely exciting compared to pretty much every other build on here, but just wanted to share anyway.

Also, a huge thank you to @dropbear for helping me out with this, both choosing parts and building. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to computers  :P

PSU: SilverStone ST50F-ES 500W

Cooling: Noctua NH-U9B SE2

Upgrade Cost: $239AUD

Next upgrades: AMD Radeon R9 270 GPU and Fractal Design Define R4 Case.

I gotta say, considering the prices you Aussies have to pay, I'm impressed you managed to get that together for that little of an amount.

Well done!

Spends in excess of $350 US for peripherals, likely less than that on the pc components..

You, sir, are the bomb. I might actually copy your idea for a build log and try a "Forever expansion" build or something like that. Just a gigantic WIP that I upgrade here and there until I get to the full custom loop cooling w/3+ GPUs. Mini HTPC to a modded 4k surround that somehow has a bloodline that goes all the way back to a $200 build or something..

Looking forward to more. Not even a bad price for what you got either, in my opinion.

For an update I would maybe get a discrete graphics card, something like the R9 270. Then it will run most games at medium to high settings at 1080p. Of course later on you should do a full upgrade with the motherboard an CPU.

Potatoes are good for your nostrils.
