iPhone 7 Home Button Not Working

Hi all,

I've recently replaced the screen on an old iPhone 7. I followed the iFixit guide, which I'll link below.

https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+7+LCD+and+Digitizer+Replacement/88860

After putting the phone back together (and taking apart, and reassembling several times), I can't get the home button to work consistently. The hardware seems to be fine, as it sometimes works exactly as you'd expect an iPhone 7 button to, haptic feedback, takes you to the home screen etc, but sometimes it will just stop working.

The iFixit guide does include a note about not overtightening the screws, or the button won't work (see below), which I think may be the problem. I've tried making them very loose, making them tighter than I'd expect, and making them somewhere in the middle, but nothing has solved it.

Anybody have any idea what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks!

You could try and buy a replacement part. But honestly this just feels like an apple problem. The ammount of people i see walking around with a software home button is ridiculous
