Hello hello, i built my pc around a year ago and i was recently thinking about possibly upgrading my CPU. I'm running a 2070 with a 2600x, is it worth it upgrading once zen 3 comes or is there no real reason to? I don't think i've been bottlenecked by my cpu in any game i've played so far. Thanks in advance

If you're not bottlenecked in anything that you do then why would you upgrade?

Welcome to the forum.

I should've fomulated the question a bit better. Im not bottlenecked in anything right now, i was thinking more towards the future and if zen 3 would bring a big enough upgrade which is worth the money for me or not, since the 2600x might eventually start to bottleneck me.

And thank you

Depends what you do. You're asking hypotheticals that can't really be answered because we don't know what future games will require, we don't know how well 4000 series will perform, and worth is subjective, so that question in general can only be answered by you.

You might not even see significant bottlenecking until AM5 is out.

Take what I say with a grain of salt. I haven't been in the gaming scene in a long time but with the availability of overclocking if you don't see a bottleneck at this time then moving to 3rd gen won't yield you a great performance increase. Unless you need more cores or there's a hardware level patch in 3rd gen that you need for an application I'd say the move isn't worthwhile.

I would never recommend upgrading early. Wait until you really need it. It might be another year or more before you have a real need. At that point prices and availability will hopefully be better and there might be new tech depending on how long you can wait.

If you have a lot of disposable income and just want a new toy, you can get better performance now. However you will be better served by a more powerful GPU. Assuming you are mainly gaming. If you aren't CPU bottlenecked now, you probably never will be until you change GPUs.

.

it's a balanced system, it's probably optimal to switch both the cpu and gpu at the same time but only when u need it.
