What would be the best air cooling option?

NotNoah17

I need an air cooler better than my stock for under $100. (3700x)

NH-D15, DRP4.

Are they am4 compatible out of box or would I need to order a mounting kit? Also are they compatible with the Asus tuf gaming x570 plus? @gloop

The  best air coolers are

Noctua NH-U12A

Noctua NH-D15

be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4

The noctua ones definitely come with an AMD mounting system included, for the drp4 I think so but I'm not sure

For a 3700X I'd look for an NH-U12S chromax.black (or a Dark Rock 4 would be a solid alternative).

You could also get an NH-U14S or NH-U12A for around the same price or very slightly more and those will perform a bit better, but they don't come in black.

Then there's the NH-D15 (or Dark Rock Pro 4), which is about as good as it gets for air cooling.

Desktop: Intel Core i9-9900K | ASUS Strix Z390-F | G.Skill Trident Z Neo 2x16GB 3200MHz CL14 | EVGA GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER XC Ultra | Corsair RM650x | Fractal Design Define R6

Laptop: 2018 Apple MacBook Pro 13"  --  i5-8259U | 8GB LPDDR3 | 512GB NVMe

Peripherals: Leopold FC660C w/ Topre Silent 45g | Logitech MX Master 3 & Razer Basilisk X HyperSpeed | HIFIMAN HE400se & iFi ZEN DAC | Audio-Technica AT2020USB+

Display: Gigabyte G34WQC

The Dark Rock 4 and Pro 4 both come with AM4 mounting in the box.

Ok thanks just making sure because amazon reviews don’t say anything and I didn’t want to have to wait for a mounting kit because my 3700x gets up to 90+ degrees when I’m playing rainbow six siege (only that). Also would it be compatible with an Asus tuf gaming x570 with Corsair rgb vengeance pro ram in the a2 b2 slots? @Mateyyy

90C+ sounds quite high, even for the stock cooler. Are you checking temps with HWiNFO64 or Ryzen Master?

It should fit fine. If you run into RAM clearance problems (as in the RAM being too tall), you can raise the fan up to clear the memory sticks so that's a non-issue.

Ok so I’m thinking of just going all out with the dark rock pro 4. I check with Ryzen master but I just raised the cpu cooler to max rpm and it lowered to 83 max. Also would I have to take apart my system at any level to mount the cooler? @Mateyyy

You'll likely be able to mount it without taking your system apart. Just take out the old cooler and mount the new one. Just plugging in the cable wil be a bit of a challenge with the mounted cooler in the case. The Dark Rock Pro 4 is really big.

With 100$ you can get the best of the best in terms of air cooling. I've used the NH-D15, NH-U12S, Dark Rock 4 and Dark Rock Pro 4 in the past and any one of these will easily handle your CPU. I currently run the NH-D15 on my 3700X and it runs like a charm! :D

@Stahlmann98would it be smarter if I just got the dark rock slim so I can ensure no clearance ram issues because I did some research and all results said it’s not compatible at all @Mateyyy. Also is the dark rock slim am4 out of box?

All recent BeQuiet Coolers should have the mounting hardware for all recend AMD/Intel sockets included. Same with Noctua.

Edit: Just watch out for height clearance with your case.

I have the h510 elite and I know the cooler fits in the h510i with a couple mm to spare and I believe they have the exact same dimensions so I think it’ll work. @Stahlmann98 also I’m going with the slim due to ram issues

The slim will easily fit and have plenty of cooling for your 3700X. Good choice.
