Can Optane be used for windows on an AMD system?

Hi, I’m new to building computers and I heard Optane is the fastest SSD around. I was considering using it as a drive for windows, however, I am going to be on a AMD system (3950x on an x570 mb.) I know that using it as a cache does not work, but I am unclear on if it needs that to function as it should. I already have a normal SSD for the rest of my storage and I would be ok with what speed I get from that, I was just considering getting a 32gb model for windows.

All optane m.2 and 2.5 and pcie cards are nvme drives, and will work in any system that has nvme support. I have used optane drives on many amd systems and old intel systems and they all work fine.

 

I wouldn't get a 32gb one for windows, Ive done this. There is basically no speed difference and the size is way to small to be practical.

Alright cool thanks for the replies! Like i said, i was just considering using it just so i can get stupid fast boot times, but if it isnt that big of a difference then i wont bother. Thanks for the tips!

My SATA SSD boots to Windows in seconds. I don't see why you'd spend multitudes more for a barely noticeable difference.

You can use it as a normal SSD, or use a Tiered storage system that will just use it as a cache.
