Canon SX540HS Audio Issue

I just got a Canon PowerShot SX540HS. I was looking for a reasonably cheap camera of this style and it was on sale. For the most part it's absolutely lovely - the image quality is very nice, it's got a good zoom lens, battery life isn't great but that's no major issue as I can buy spare batteries, and the controls are all pretty nice. The build quality is better than camera I've ever used. I'll mostly be using it for still photography but also for a small YouTube channel that I run.

 

However, there is one issue with the second use. The camera has a small fan in it and the internal microphones pick up the sound of the fan, and unfortunately at this price point there aren't really any cameras with mic jacks. Anyway, this creates an annoying hiss which is quite noticable, especially in quiet video recordings.

 

I assume there is no way to solve this while still using the on-camera mics (but if there is, let me know!) - how difficult is it to manually sync audio in editing software? I'm thinking I might purchase a smartphone mic and record my audio separately but I'd like some advice first.

By the way, my desktop is a docked laptop. Get over it, No seriously, I have an exterrnal monitor, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet and cooling fans all connected. Using it feels no different to a desktop, it works for several hours if the power goes out, and disconnecting just a few cables gives me something I can take on the go. There's enough power for all games I play and it even copes with basic (and some not-so-basic) video editing. Give it a go - you might just love it.

Syncing audio in post isn’t hard as long as you properly clap or use a clapper at the start of each clip.

One thing which has occured to me is as I was testing close to my PC some of the hiss is probably from the fans in the computer, so I'll give it a go outside and see if it works better. Otherwise I'll give syncing in post a go.
