sata ssd vs nvme ssd

Prathamesh232

I am building my pc for the first time and I was wondering about the storage configuration

250gb 970 evo plus(or any other nvme) with 2tb barracuda

or

2 tb samsung 860 evo (or any other sata ssd)

I will majorly use the pc for game streaming  and learning animating and game devlopment.

will my games or apps run slower if they are stored on the hdd even though the system is on a fast nvme?

A 2TB SATA drive is what I'd go for of the two options. NVMe's real world performance benefit is pretty limited to specific workloads.

For what you're using it for, SATA is good. If you find some workloads could benefit from NVMe, you can buy one and use it for those workloads at a later date.

If apps or games are stored on the HDD, they will generally run slower, yes.

There are cheaper NVME drives that are only a bit more expensive than some sata SSDs, so you might as well get an NVME unless you are on a really tight budget.

Yes. Any program or game installed on the HDD will load as slow as an HDD loads and will not benefit from the SSD in the system.

The 2TB SSD option is easily the better route, though there are other drives other than Samsung's that perform similarly while costing less.

Look for either of these: Silicon Power P34A80, ADATA SX8200 Pro, HP EX950, Sabrent Rocket, WD SN750, or even a SATA drive like a Crucial MX500.
