I am looking at the i3-10100 and see the suggested pricing on their website is around $122 and but cheapest I can find it is $140. I assume there is some preimum because of supply chain problems. Does anyone know if the prices will go back down to that $122 or will basically stay around that 140 price point in the next couple weeks and I should just buy the CPU and not wait?

If you look carefully, that price listed is for a 1000 unit purchase quantity from Intel's direct customers (distributors) it is not the final consumer price. There will always be a markup.

I'm seeing the price for that CPU pretty steady at $130 on Newegg. Has not changed, so I don't expect it will for a while at least.

They might, they might not, can't really say with any certainty.

On the PSU and motherboard side the whole situation's slowly starting to improve.

122 is 1KU pricing. Final pricing is 130-140$. It's easy to forget how overpriced I two is when and are around offering the same for 2/3 the price 😁

To play devil's advocate here, the 3300X's only $10-20 cheaper and lacks an iGPU.

Zen 2 APUs on the other hand will make i3s practically obsolete for use cases similar to OP's, but those aren't out just yet. okay actually OP needs Quick Sync, but regardless

I see they're in stock at Walmart for about 140, would that be a good deal or wait for Newegg to restock?

If you need it now, buy it now. If you want to wait indefinitely to save maybe $10, then wait.

I wouldn't wait if it was me.

The only thing that could make the i3 a good deal is if it were dropped by half. Again, you need quick sync and we get it but it's still a shit price considering the 8400, a six core i5 , was 175-190
