They are one of the few decent PSU producers in Europe. Here they have a reputation as Corsair and EVGA have in America. They are not bad. The rule is to never cheap out on PSUs, but why do y'all keep judging Chieftec with no experience with them whatsoever?

the information we provide has nothing do with experience with them, but based on the technical specs for there models. This is how they are ranked, graded, and recommended based on there rails, protections, operation conditions/temps etc...

They are not a PSU OEM. Their PSUs are manufactured by OEMs in China, just like with every single other brand.

Anyone that generalises on a brand by brand basis should not be trusted. Any brand is equally capable of selling crap. The rule of thumb is that any PSU is crap until proven otherwise, and there doesn't seem to be any actual reviews to prove they're not crap. cUsToMeR rEvIeWs are not actual reviews, and don't count for anything.

I agree and disagree with you.

I find shopping for PSUs annoying and frustrating too.

A known brand pretty much is going to work alright. Heck even half the no name stuff works for a while most of the time.

For me though what's not fun is buying stuff if you don't really know beyond what's printed on the side what your actually buying?

If there are numerous customer reviews saying a specific PSU spectacularly failed though.

That's worth reading to me.

Especially nice if someone known follows up and reports on it.  Which I've hardly ever seen.

On the flip side I've seen known people doing build videos recommending a power supply I knew was crap for the stuff I just talked about. So it's hard to trust what people say. Even sometimes people that eveyone watches.🥴

It would be so nice to have a trusted review channel that constantly tested all the known brands and their different models. I'd just like to know how all the PSU models really stack up from actual long testing.

It would be boring at times probably but I guess all this pc parts stuff is boring or fun depending on the person.

A PSU can be crap, even if it powers your PC. E.g the 80+ Gold rated EVGA G1 NEX is a crappy, low end group regulated PSU from a well known brand. It will power your PC, but it's worse than a lot of budget PSUs.

What is going to get more reports of the PSU blowing up? A PSU that sells 100k units with 1% blowing up, or a PSU that sells 500 units with 50% blowing up? The number of negative reviews are more related to the number of units sold.

There are PSU reviewers, but PSU reviews in video format don't really work well. Gamer's Nexus did a video PSU review, which was just an absolute trainwreck, imo. There is also not enough time for reviewers to review every single model from every single brand.

I’m pretty sure that’s @jonnyGURU’s website. There hasnt been a review in a year, but there is a large database.

Yup I've seen him in videos and no offense to him (I'm sure he's very knowledgeable) but I don't like him.

🤫

well, I mean.. he is basically the god father to PSU reviews, testing, and knowledge... sooooo, whether you love him, or hate him, you have to respect him for what he does and has done for the PSU world and continues to do to this date.

🙂 No hate, just a preference. Like preferring one TV show over another that both cover the same subject. Only I have found no other yet.
