Internet stuck at 100mbps

Survinar
Go to solution Solved by Survinar,

i found why my internet was so slow image.png.7561079032996b7fa1549b07c678cc1c.pngonly 4 wires were connected.

@Survinar

Try rebooting the ISP modem/gateway and your router. Is the ISP device a simple modem or a combo device?

Check the Bandwidth Control > 'Bandwidth Control Settings' to make sure your ingress and egress numbers match what you should be getting from your ISP in kbps.

I also agree with plugging directly into the ISP modem/gateway and running the speed test to see if there might be an issue with the router. If you're getting the same slow speeds as before, try a new ethernet cable (e.g. Cat5e, Cat6a) and test again.

So im paying my isp for 1000mbps but i cant reach that speed i only reach maximum 100mbps ive checked almost everything, i have cat5e cables which is the minimum for 1000mbps, my motherboard supports 1000mbps, my router supports 1000mbps, also selected full 1000mbps duplex in windows and in the routers settings.

Did you buy your own modem or the ISP gave one to you?

Wait! What?!?!

Was this segment always exposed or did you just cut the sleeve open? Do you see why you should always check your cables even if they're supposed to be gigabit-rated?

Whoever did that had no idea what they were doing when it comes to ethernet cables. Try to avoid joining cables like that; the twisted pairs and insulation are there for a reason!

That was always exposed and only 4 wires were connected not all 8. I dont know who did that but they were placed there by my isp

This must be trolling.  Because that rats nest would never be installed by anyone.

If it did, it makes my CCNA hurt.  But seriously, I feel trolled.

ISP's here in the US are known for using 3rd party contractors for installs. Comcast for example, when we had one install our digital voice service (around the time if first came out) the installer screwed it up, when we had to have a tech come out to fix it, he couldn't believe what he saw. So yeah, someone could have installed it like that and just didnt give a shit. Contractors are paid by the job generally, so if they can take a short cut they will. Because time is money.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

thats not even a shortcut though lol...thats a "ive never done anything electrical before" job....Whats the bet he doesnt have wire strippers, and stripping and twisting all those took twice as long as just doing it properly 😅
