Hi LinusTechTips Community,

I was looking for something that is similar to the built-in Task Manager in Windows 10, although has more features (specifically looking for the ability to block certain processes from running), the only thing I could find was GlarySoft Security Process Explorer which has the option to block tasks, although the main issue is that it wasn't really designed for Windows 10 which reflects an old UI and it does not show the icons for each process like task manager does which makes it difficult to sort through all of the tasks running.

Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions,

Kind of wonder if glasswire can do this?  I’ve never used it myself.  It’s on my list of “I should really try that” programs.

Not a pro, not even very good.  I’m just old and have time currently.  Assuming I know a lot about computers can be a mistake.

Life is like a bowl of chocolates: there are all these little crinkly paper cups everywhere.

exemples of what tasks/processes?

I don't really have a fast computer (Core 2 Duo E7500, 8GB of RAM, 1TB HDD) and some programs and applications that come with Windows 10 cause a lot of background CPU usage such as Skype, would also like to disable processes like Google Chrome updates and Mega Updater since those run automatically in background while I am using my computer and cause too much background CPU usage.

I think that GlassWire is more for network monitoring and and can block applications from accessing the internet, although I want to block specific processes from running at all on the system.

i don't know what mega updater is, sooooo 🤷‍♂️

for google chrome, it shouldn't be doing that, but if you can't kill it with task manager then there is a problem (malware virus anything)

Same for skype
