QUick Question, Can you use the BIOS usb port on motherboard for keyboard etc?

Hi!

I have a Asus X570-e Motherboard,

It has a USB port that says "BIOS" which is used to flash BIOS when checking the Asus webpage.

 

Can I also use this port as a normal USB port? Like plugin a keyboard?

I tried and it works without issues but can something else happen when I example boot my computer while using the BIOS flash USB port?

Yep, that still works as a normal USB port. The only thing different about that port is if you push the button on the back the board will search for a BIOS file on a USB drive you plug into that port. It's for recovering boards that have had BIOS troubles.

I assume since the motherboard has this feature, That I should setup a old USB drive with the latest bios and put it away "Just in case" I need that in the future?

Unless you have a habit of shutting off your PC while updating the BIOS it's unlikely you'll need to use it, but it's not a bad purpose for that old 256 MB drive in the back of the cabinet. (Everyone has those right? It's not just me?)

You don't have it in all the time 

You can update the bios just Incase you had a faulty cpu / you didn't have a cpu in the first place or your mobo needed a bios update to support a certain cpu

Hey you need a spare usb drive? or micro sd card? I got plenty of extras I can give you one or two if you really dont have any higher than a 64MB. Sorry for reviving this old thread but idk how else to let you know that. I just joined this forum.
