2080 or 2070S

Somebody in reddit told me that a ryzen 7 3700X and a 2070S is enough to run 1440p at 144hz , i am a bit concerned towards the gpu because it is a bit "weak" to run it but i heard that the 2080 would be a massive jump ahead of it. and the cpu , if amd is good enough or go with an overclocked i7 9700K.

The whole RTX line was "refreshed" with the RTX Super line-up.

The RTX 2070S is like less than 10% slower than the RTX 2080 (non-S).

 

Basically, RTX 2060 < 2060S < 2070 < 2070S < 2080 < 2080S < 2080 Ti.

Depending on how demanding the game is, the 2070S is targeted as a 1440p gaming card.

That ryzen processor is extremely powerful and if you pair it will a good enough processor it can pretty much run anything.

For comparing the Intel cpu costs £350 and you get a base clock speed of 3.5ghz and 8/8 cores/threads

For the AMD: costs £281 has a base clock speed of 3.6 ghz and 8/16 cores/threads t

It really is a no brainer for £70 less you get twice the threads might have a lower clockspeed at max turbo but is that really worth the extra £70 and 8 less threads?

so does sim racing and open world games need a lot of power for the graphics and refresh rate?

Cross fire and sli are dead and don't scale correctly

Not worth it and no it won't

Get one 5700xt for the price of the 2060 and it will perform like a 2070 super

It doesn't support crossfire, and in any case it's more like a 2070 non super in most games. In a few rare cases it matches the 2070S, but there's also a few where it gets beat by the 2060S.

Crossfire or SLI is not recommended, as most games barely support it.

AMD / nVidia are pushing Crossfire / SLI, but game developers don't want to put the time into it...

RTX 2070S or 5700 XT will have no issues.

nVidia took away SLI support until the higher-end GPUs .... RTX 2080 / 2080S and up only.

RTX 2070 and lower does not have SLI capability.

No way does the 5700XT fit between the 2070S and the 2080.  It's between the 2060S and 2070 most times.

@TofuHaroto But as seen in the vid the 5700xt was holding 60-110 fps in 'normal' games where there wasn't a quick screen swipe which makes it easier for the fps to go up rather than having fps drops because of the fast gameplay in racing games

Do you mean frame time ? 

The fps when turning quickly has to many factors for it to matter

Here's a GN article showing the 5700XT even with the 2070 non super in F1 2018. Results are fairly similar in other games.

It's still a great value card, I'd recommend it over a 2060S any day at the same price. It's just not a magical panacea that can match any card on the market.
