There is pretty well no distinguishable difference at all. The only thing that could matter in some scenarios is where or not that the drive in question has DRAM cache. Watch this:

 

The most noticeable difference would be when reading and writing large files. Maybe a slight increased boot time, but again, likely never noticeable for 90% of users.

Realistically no, you won't see a difference. If you put 2 systems side by side, one with an NVMe and one with a SATA SSD and turned them on at the same time, you might see a difference, but if you just have just one system with one or the other SSD, you won't notice a difference. For gaming a SATA SSD is enough, you don't need a NVMe SSD.

Things like rendering and post processing photographs, videos, ect. might see practical improvement, but for simple applications like loading theres not enough of a difference to say one is better than another in load times. The M.2 will technically beat the SSD but usually its going to be less than 1sec difference.
