5000 Mhz ddr4 ram priced at 1,000$ USD

So I was making a new pcpartpicker list as you do when bored out of your mind inside, and I saw a weird pricing for RAM at 5k mhz. It was priced at around 1,000 $ USD. Is the pricing for this kit high because of inflation of markets from Corona, or is this memory just extremely overpriced/valued?

It's most likely priced that way because DDR4 5000 is a stupidly overkill speed, so people who need (or think they need) that will pay tons.

The highest speed modules will come at a premium as they have to bin the best of the best ram chips to reach those speeds. I tend to stop looking much past 4000 or so, but this is a niche enough product they can probably ask what they want for it as they will sell what few units they have anyway.

That's actually a pretty good deal. At launch Corsair wanted over $1,200 for the kit, and it's still on their site for over $1,000.

It's the utmost of performance, akin to buying a Ferrari. As you approach the upper echelon, you pay more for that little bit more performance.

you mean it's normal for this kit? I mean this is the only 5GHz kit listed on PCPP so there isn't even a "norm" to compare this to, itself IS the norm. I'm just talking about a common practice.

Well, in this forum..... It's never mentioned the SOC voltage is much much higher than recommended daily users 1.10 lousy volts.

Ah yea.... You overclock the memory controller once past its rated supported frequency. 

 

I just simply wont tell people to use this voltage however. My goals differ from most peoples.

Yea I mean at this point imc's got to the point where it is good enough even on both platforms that cheap memory can achieve it's advertised speeds pretty easily

Yea sadly this is the case but alot of the times (at least from what I saw) it was a bios / chipset driver issue and not the imc
