Upgrade from i5-9600k?

I'm planning to wait for the new am5 socket, so not gonna get a new setup asap.
Currently my 9600k is pretty good but do really miss the hyperthreading boost.

Is getting a i7-8700k a good move?

Only if you find it for a good price, usually the 9700K or KF is cheaper (and you can forget about the used market). What country are you getting it in?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 10 and Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

How many watts do I needATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explainedgroup reg is bad

Bangladesh. Things are a little bit expensive around here. like a 250$ part goes for 300$
The 9700k has hyperthreading desabled and the 9900k is a waste of my savings from my am5 build

As someone who has a 8700k, you're better off just waiting with your current cpu. For gaming you won't see any significant improvement.

I currently have a 9600K and use it for Photogrammetry and bridge load calculations.  I use ArcGIS, AutoCAD, and Microstation...  I'm thinking of going the AMD route...  So many choices!

What type of processor are you aiming for with AM5 ? How many cores/threads ?

I assume you have a Z390 board today, Which model of motherboard to you have ? Decent VRMs on your board ?

One thing that could be a motivation to buy the 9900k is that your won't need to upgrade your motherboard which would save you about 200-400eur (depending on mobo ofc).

CPU: i9 9900K   Cooler: NH-D15   RAM: Kingston Fury 4 x 8GB 3600MHz CL17   Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix Z390-F   GPU: ASUS 3080 TUF   Case: In Win D-Frame   PSU: Corsair HX850i   Storage: 250GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (OS), 500GB Samsung 970 EVO NVMe (Games), 2TB Crucial BX500 SSD (Storage)   Monitor: Samsung Odyssey Neo G9.

At least 12c/24t with AM5.
I currently have a Asus Strix Z390-F motherboard.
In his time, if you consider the performance per watt ratio of the 9900k with it's price (new or even used) including thermals, saving up for AMD is the best choice.
