Is building a hackintosh reliable

if you want reliable guaranteed operation dont build a hackintosh

If you judge a fish based on its ability to climb trees it will go its whole life thinking its a failure.

Don't bother unless you can crib an actual mac's hard drive.

 

Hackintoshes are not legal installations of OSX, however you can more or less take advantage of the loopholes about running your own backup to legitimately use a hackintosh to keep using a installation you already have. Just I wouldn't recommend doing that except as a data recovery operation.
