hi, i am going to build a new computer, I would like the most performance per dollar in my system

I started looking at the amd fx line, but i needed the build to be small (LAN parties and such) and the amd fx line matx mobos suck, so i started looking at intel, i saw that there xeon ( http://pcpartpicker.com/part/intel-cpu-bx80646e31230v3 ) has hyper threading which would be nice to have in video editing and some performance in bf 4

I would like you guys opinion on this

It's a quadcore Haswell CPU with hyperthreading..

In day-to-day applications, it will perform like a i7-4770 that's been underclocked to 3.3.. Xeons do support some other technologies like ECC, but this won't affect average uses at all.

Frankly, Id rather go with an i7-4770K because you can overclock it above 4 Ghz, which will give you better performance than running at 3.3.

i7 not perfectly stable at 4.4.. #firstworldproblems

do you think that the underclock will lose performance in any way?

its the best bang for the buck cpu in this price range, especially if you can find it on sale for like 200 bucks. Its a 4770 non-k clocked 100 MHz slower, which means that it performs like a 300 dollar cpu, but is at least 50 bucks cheaper.

and you can actually overclock xeons quite a bit, if you are using a z87 motherboard. so all the thunbs up for this cpu.

it also has a 3.7 boost clock, so what cpu cooler do you think i should use (besides the cm hyper 212 evo, i want the build to be different) so i can hit that boost clock more often?

any mid sized tower heatsink should do the job just fine. besides the 212 evo, something like the Enermax ETS-T40 or beQuiet! Dark Rock 2 will deliver decent cooling while still staying relatively quiet.

I'm pretty sure you can't overclock a Xeon [by very much].. Intel locks them down pretty hard so that they can run more stable in a server environment (i.e. heavy load, pretty much 24/7)..

Xeons aren't magical.. It's a quadcore Haswell CPU with Hyperthreading, so it will perform pretty much the same as a quadcore Haswell CPU with Hyperthreading. Since it's clocked lower, the performance will likewise be lower..

It's not a bad option considering the price. However, if you're just looking at gaming performance, an i7-4770K with a decent overclock will outperform the Xeon in every application..

I'd go with the Xeon for sure if you're on a budget.

If I had the choice between a Xeon or i5, it'd be Xeon all the way.

It's as fast as the i7 4770, and if you don't intend on overclocking you're golden. I never overclocked my 2700k. Never needed to.

im not very comfortable with overclocking (as im 13)

for hyper threading at 60/70 dollars cheaper than an i7 i wouldnt mind losing 1-2 frames

i say yes to only this xeon as its basically a 4770 but this isnt the same case for other xeons so dont assume because this one is near identical to the 4770 that others will be the same as consumer chips!

yes, i realized this that is why i went straight to the forums

i really like the be quiet shadow rock 2

Why, when the Xeon is the same price and offers hyper threading?

i will be streaming and editing videos in adobe photoshop/videoshop

When it comes time to build since you don't want to overclock just make sure you go with an H87 board, or even an H81 if you don't plan on getting more than 16gb of RAM or a SLI set up.

I really don't think the extra 100mhz of stock clock is going to make a huge difference for him.

It also turbos to the same as the i7, and he's stated he has no interest in over clocking.
