Looking for an ''android budget phone'' savy person...multiple question post:

1- When it comes to gaming on android phones, how does it work in regards to rendering resolutions of the games?

For example can a phone with a 720p screen but a lower performing GPU be better at gaming than a 1080p+ phone with a better SoC?

Or does most games if say you run medium settings will render at 720p even on a phone with a higher end display?

2- After some research for a budget android phone that ticked all my boxes (Androir 9.0 or better, 4000mah battery or better, 8 core CPU with 4GB RAM...etc.)

and within my 175$CAD (125US) budget i want to spend on a phone, i landed this amazon deal for 175$ Shipped no tax...assuming i just

need to pop my sim card and my 64gb Sdcard in it cause my old phone (moto e4 died)

https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/gp/product/B07V1V3S34?ref=ppx_pt2_dt_b_prod_image

was this a good deal?

3- The reason i asked question 1 is my old phone was 720P with a snapdragon 425 and was ''ok'' for the games i play on it but it could've been better.

The new phone use the:

Processors
CPU : MTK, Helio P23, 4xCortex-A53, 2.0GHz and 4xCortex-A53, 1.5GHz
GPU : ARM Mali G71 MP2 700MHz

...but at resolution of 2280*1080...

MAIN QUESTION: Am i looking at BETTER or WORSE gaming performance in Android games with this phone than i was with my old...

i don't know where to check for reliable benchmarks and stuff so i'm asking if someone already know this stuff or would be kind enough to dig a little... :D

Thanks have a good day and stay safe!

EDIT: i ordered the phone because from the reviews i've seen it's well built and has somewhat good sony cameras and a good screen and everything so even if gaming sucks it's still decent. ...well i think:

it was that or the Moto E6 Plus which is 12$ more shipped and only 2GB RAM etc....

Performance of the P23 gpu appears to be about double, though those gains are eaten by the high resolution display. Amusingly, both are actually substantially slower than the Adreno 330 used in the Snapdragon 800, a chip launched in 2013.

I’d look into an old flagship. A used Galaxy S7 will handily wallop both with the Adreno 530.

is there a way to make games render at lower resolution...say 720p on the new phone that has a 1080p screen and get better performance?

From what I recall, there is, but you’d need root access to do so. Some of the more demanding games may not even render native resolution anyway, further reducing the benefits. My experience here is limited as I’d usually bought last-gen flagship hardware, which is often enough to run most things at native 60fps.

What games are you playing anyway? Is it out of the question to seek out an older flagship device? Even an iPhone 6S would be an inexpensive option that offers a strong GPU, and is fairly easy to replace the battery in (people giving Apple crap for hard-to-replace batteries never dealt with a newer Samsung), and I think will offer a much better experience for anything short of outlier (very graphically intensive) games.

yeah no...an old phone isn't an option i want something with a good battery life, and brand new.

Samsung in the same price range was the A10S...which i think is worse than the phone i ordered?

iPhone i don't want that scrap...i hate apple products.

Of these 3 phones, which is the best pick? Samsgun is more expensive, and the Umidigi is the cheapest cause it has no sale tax for some reason.

I also considered the Moto E6 plus

https://www.amazon.ca/-/fr/Motorola-3000mAh-Removable-Unlocked-XT2025-1/dp/B07WX5WPCP/ref=sr_1_1?__mk_fr_CA=ÅMÅŽÕÑ&keywords=moto+e6+plus&qid=1589589951&s=electronics&sr=1-1

the moto came out to 186$ with tax tho...

i don't play demanding games like pubg and stuff...

The performance of my old moto e4 were fine honestly

i just care to get similar or slightly better performance than moto e4 in 3D.

Out of the options presented, I’d probably go with the Samsung A10s.

Performance of the chipset between the Helio P23 and P22 aren’t far apart at all, but multiple sources mention the P22 to be a 12nm SoC vs the 16nm P23. This will likely provide for better battery runtimes.

Performance-wise, none of these are going to be world’s better than the Snapdragon 425, but if you were happy with the performance before, then the Helio P22 will be sufficient.

i found antutu running on P22 vs P23 and the P23 score is around 16000 while the P22 is 12000 so i went with the P23 Umidigi...also it's 16nm but the battery is bigger...4150mah vs 3000mah (in the Moto E6 plus...the A10S is too expensive so the P22 option would've been the motorola phone)

EDIT:  A10S is also 12 000 points GPU

This is samsung A10S

Didn’t even think about the battery size tbh. The Umdigi will be a good choice then.

Yeah the samsung A10S has a nice 4000mhz battery and is probably doing the longest on a charge, but the A5 PRO looks better built and has better specs...4GB Ram...

i'll get it in a couple days, will post a quick review after a couple days see what i think of the phone if anyone reading this maybe in the future is interested. :)

Thanks for your help!

Hope it works out for you.

I don’t have a home internet connection, so my phone is kind of my primary internet device. So I can definitely justify paying more for the performance.

My use case certainly isn’t everyone’s though. For people that use their phone a bit more sparingly, Cortex-A53 based devices get the job done. My Dad’s old Honor 6X also had an octa Cortex-A53 SoC, and it did decently enough, though I probably wouldn’t want to run LightRoom on that. 😛
