what is this motherboard slot used for ?

Thats M.2 M key'ed, which can be "PCIe ×4, SATA and SMBus" according to Wikipedia,

Ii cannot guarantee if it has sata or PCIe, but considering the wifi card on the other side, i would put money on it being PCIe.

No, it's an mSATA-port.

 

EDIT: Actually, the screw-hole is in the wrong place. Not sure if it's mSATA, either.
