So I'm the the midst of building my 1st gaming PC. I've been rocking a console since the OG Nintendo, you know the one with the cheap graphics people seam it's worth paying crazy money for something that is out-classed by the common cell phone - ya that one . So my question is: where can a guy buy games for a computer, I mean steam is okay. I'm really not overly excited about NEEDING an internet connection just to launch the game. Maybe I'm a bit of console fan-boy but I do like having the physical copy when possible.

Look into GOG.

DRM free games, meaning you basically get the game and can play without an internet connection.

Apart from other marketplaces such as Origin,Uplay,Gog,etc. there isn't another option nowadays

They all work in the same way as Steam I believe GOG is the exception though

Steam has offline mode so games that don't need to connect to the internet to work will work. So does origin and others.

Gog is your best bet for drm free games that work regardless.

You can run Steam games offline if you configure Steam for offline use before going offline I think. Or maybe it was just a matter of logging on offline if there is no internet connection.

GOG is as minibois says.

steam's offline mode is relatively competent if the game itself doesnt have a notably ugly (or third party) DRM implementation.

i presume origin, uplay, and epic games launcher are equally reasonable.

On steam's side at least, online requirement is more a game dev's issue, than steam's issue. a lot of non-valve games on steam can actually be launched without having steam running at all.

Where is GOG out of? looks like all their prices are in Euros, and I know there are lot of European countries that use this currency.

Scroll down the page (completely down the page) and you can set what currency (and language) you want to see the store in.

GOG is part of CD Project Red, creator of the Witcher and Cyberpunk 2077. They are headquarted/founded in Poland (Europe), which actually does not use the Euro (they use Zloty). So kind of weird it sets the store to Euros for you by default :P

Not sure what is up with their site, but it almost seems like it sets you to a random language and its accompanying currency when you first open the website. First time I opened the site, it set me to Russian & Russian Rubles. Second time (in an incognito tab) it set me to French - Euros.

I am from Europe and do use Euros, but I am neither from Russia or France.

As others mentioned steam has an offline mode.

In the cases where a game may need a online connection to launch but not to actually play, the only way to get around that would be to play an 'unofficial' version of the game.

While such 'unofficial' versions of games have a bad rep, in cases where ur using one to get around the terrible always online DRM some games use, its morally acceptable.
