4k benchmarks at max settings.

Sir_Zeke

Hi, I'm looking for gaming benchmarks at 4k with max settings. I have i7 3770 non "k" with 2080 Ti, I want upgrade my cpu but can't make my mind up. All the benchmarks at 4k are on some silly settings. I'm not interested in avg fps but 1% and drops as for me if a game runs at 100fps but drops to 20 is unplayable. Thanks for help.

I don't have a limit but i don't want to get someting that will be overpriced for my needs. I don't do professional work and I want to keep it for at least 5 years before I notice slow downs. I play in 4k 60hz exclusively and will move to higher hz in future.

Well regardless what CPU you buy, you'll need to upgrade your motherboard and ram cause all current gen options are DDR4.

So 16GB of DDR4 will be like $100 and a new motherboard probably $200-300, and then you can look at an i9 or R9 CPU, total less than $1k even for the top end options.

I'd recommend a 9900k or 3900X/3950X since you have such a good GPU, don't want to be limiting its potential much.

First of all I'm looking for benchmarks. As for getting top of the line cpu can you tell me what's the point if at 4k avg fps is less than 5% between 9900k and amd 3700. I'm looking for benchmarks of lowes 1% and minimum fps not opinions and ideas.

Yeah just search for 3900x or 3950x benchmarks on google images (cause they're newer than the 9900k, so you can have a comparison)

Then look at all the hundreds of results on google or youtube, most of them show the minimums.

You can have a look at https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-2019-amd-ryzen-9-3900x-vs-core-i9-9900k-review and then take each CPU review to compare. @Enderman explained a valid point why many 4k reviews (comparisons) don't exist as you become bound by GPU performance and various CPUs will perform basically on par. Overall from what I have seen, the smallest 1% drops will be with 9700k in most games or 9900k due to higher single core performance. 1080p/1440p results of 1% will show the same structure, so can be used as basis. Since you have to ugprade everything (including mobo, ram etc.) suggest to wait for 10th gen, even minimal, but will have higher performance. Important to mention though, that with current gen. GPUs max settings and 4k in many games is not achievable (especially AAA titles). Speaking from self experience with 2080ti.

So if budget is not a constraint and only basis is 1% gaming, would wait and go for 10th gen. (strictly gaming 10700 or 10900 for gaming and multitasking) which come out in a few weeks.

Yeah^^

What I said earlier (before it got removed) was that benchmarks are typically done in 1080p to make the difference between CPUs clearer.

4k moves more of the load to the GPU, making the differences harder to measure, but the relative performance stays the same.

If CPU A performs 10% better than CPU B, the same will be the case at 4k, except instead fo 110 vs 100 fps it will be more like 55 vs 50 fps.

A is still better than B.

This applies to minimum 1% too, not just average.

People don't often benchmark in 4k because you won't be able to tell which CPU is better if the fps is 30 vs 30 when it could be 121 vs 119 at 1080p

Either way, as you can see from benchmarks, the best CPU for gaming is the 9900KS, soon to be replaced by the 10900K.

dont get a cpu with onlu 6 or 8 threads. bets bet for you is 12 core 24 thread cpu. Modern games use up to 6 cores and 12 threads. that is why you are gettings fps drops. you could go with ryzen 5 3600 but after new consoles games are optimised for 8 cores and 16 threads. that is why something liek ryzen 9 3900x would be the best for you

Actually @Sir_Zeke's drop in fps is due to his current processor bottle-necking that 2080. Any newer cpu from the last 3 generations of either AMD or Intel will resolve the issue.

That I7-3770 should not be paired with anything higher than a GTX 960 or 980.

I have 2080 tis and play at 4k but test at lower resolutions.

I do know about CPU drops at 4k since I have been playing at the resolution since 2015.

My drops are above 60fps with a 5ghz CPU so I do not see or feel them in regular game play. When I used a i7 6700k the drops were usually in the 40s and with a i7 2600k they were in the 30s.

I usually bench at lower resolutions and right now my CPUs are running at stock but I will run some 4k benches if you have them.

Heaven at system resolution.

Superposition.

Any 3DMark extreme benches.

Thank you guys for more post about the fact that benchmarks are done in 1080p I didn't know that. AS I said before I'm looking for benchmarks with different CPUs at 4k for min and 1%. If you have a benchmark like this or know a website or forum or a link please post if not, DON'T POST.

Let me give a example that is not base on any fact or information:

If i'm running a game on a CPU a and getting 55 fps and drops to 20 fps for 250$ or CPU B with 53 fps but drops to 45 fps for 700$. I will get the more expensive one but if the min are close or the same the is no point in paying more to get 2 fps avg more.

Now to do this math I need benchmarks with different cpus and same resolution. Not a group of people telling me that is not relevant without a shred of evidence.

Thank you for this post . You are the only person that understand what i was looking for. I have metro and Shadow of the Tomb Raider will need to re download them.

I will give a example R6 Siege at 4k ultra I get 90 fps avg and drops to 55 fps but if I use AA x4 i get 60 to 70 and drops to 10 fps. on paper 60 to 70 fps is perfect but In reality  is unplayable.
