PCIe 3.0 extension cable in a PCIe 2.0 socket

Hello,

 

I have an old PC with PCIe 2.0 x16 socket. It currently has a GPU connected to it, but I need to move the GPU to a different location because it blocks the PCIe x1 that I need for a wireless network card

 

Will a PCIe 3.0 extension cable work with that PCIe 2.0 socket? I just can't find PCIe 2.0 extension cables, only 3.0
