should i buy 32 defective gpus in hope of them working?

Giblerrr

i recently saw this ad on a used buying website in norway ( i live there )

ad.html?finnkode=177599863

the dude is selling 32 defective gpus and has apparently not tested them, which i think is unlikely.

i put in an bid of 800$, was this a wise decision

i figured that maybe i would get lucky and one of the cards would work, or i could resell the coolers and make some money that way

Well what gpus? Probably not a good idea unless youre experienced but... You do you. IMO its almost never a good choice, and usually ends up with the buyer being scammed, or given really broken parts that seemed fine.

According to the post it's a bunch of RTX 2070, 2080, and 2080Ti cards with a Vega VII and 2060 in there as well. All non-super cards.

I highly suspect all cards are dead and/or fake with flashed BIOS chips. No way anyone would sell that much potentially working hardware for that cheap.

yeah I highly doubt if you win the bid will you actually get those cards, or get those cards in a somewhat manageable condition.

Very unlikely he didn't test to see if at least one 2080ti was still working. Unless you don't care about money as a vendor.

They won't work.

If you're lucky maybe 2-3 of those may have shorted mosfets or vrm controllers and you could harvest good parts from some card to fix another ... but this requires good soldering skills and equipment.

Couldo also have bad ram chips i guess.

i would still make money if i were to only sell the coolers, and if one of them was working i'd make it back already

I would advise caution regarding such purchase of defective parts. It's either too good to be true, or you can't handle "the truth".

For starters, you'll need proper skill and equipment to conduct repairs on graphic cards. This ain't easy.

Also, the seller did not specify what kind of "defect(s)" they card have. If those RTX cards were affected by the early GDDR6 failure or power problems, it's actually less challenging to fix as long as you know how to (de)solder BGA/SMC and where to source them. (And if those card are still covered by warranty, it would be even more simpler.)

I am not sure how much you can sell a cooler for, but what do you honestly think the chances are that someone isn't going to test a 2080ti to see if it works? I would stay away from this unless you can solder and have experience troubleshooting and fixing logic boards.

i dont really have any soldering experience, but i think thats a risk i would be willing to sell if its not that hard.
