Did you line up the triangles? Did you open the socket?

What does not fit?

Do you have a picture of what is going on?

if it's on the socket without any wobble and also it's matched with the triangle, just push the pin and lock it. It's a part of the mechanism

I hear strange sounds as they rub against each other, it's nothing to worry about?

that crunch sound is normal. it sounds bad. but its normal.

The 9400f can work in it, and should be fine for the most part. It might get a little toasty, and possibly throttle in some intense workloads, but in games it should be fine. you'll also be limited to the memory spec of the 9400f, which iirc is 2666.
