im running a tight budget and figured it was worth spending more on the gpu than cpu

Its a good combo on a nearly dead platform. Like @Mister Woof suggested the 3600 is a good choice. In a couple years you'll be happy when you can drop in a ryzen 4000 series cpu for an upgrade.

It's decent. You would get a pretty good bargain if you go ryzen 5 3600. It's very unlikely anyone will notice a 5 fps difference in games with going ryzen

how much less is the 9400f when you count the mobo+cpu for ryzen vs the mobo + cpu for intel?

If you can wait for the ryzen 3 3300x it might be worth it then. You are looking at b450 not x570 boards right?

If one can get a good cooler and can do overclocking, the 3600 is better, but if it is really $50 more expensive....

Without overclocking the 9400f easily beats the 3600 in gaming.

I wouldn't say easily and the 9400f stock cooler needs to be replaced unless cpu frying is your thing.

If you already have the board, go ahead and get the 9400.

It performs well enough.

The stock cooler works well enough for the 9400.

It's not quiet, but it probably won't throttle.

13$ more. Only downside with ryzen is you might need to do a bios upgrade with the mobo and its a micro-atx instead of ATx. I'm not an AMD fanboy, I just think the 3600 is a much better choice in the long run.

As far as a combination I have a 9400f which I coupled with a 2070s last year and it’s never been cpu bound.

So it is plenty of power for a 1660s.

Someone’s getting pushy.

Hey, bacithecat, you better agree to buy a 3600 or Sorensen will get mad. 🤪
