Heard there are a bunch of really friendly people on this forum --- hope someone can help me out here.

This is my first attempt at building a PC, and I have my parts picked out below:

https://pcpartpicker.com/list/8bYVgJ

Upon some reading, I realized that there are such things called QVL for each motherboard. I looked up the QVL for this motherboard, and the M.2 storage that I selected is not on it. However, I am not certain how hard and fast the QVL from the motherboard manufacturer is, since Crucial's website did say that it was compatible with this motherboard.

This opened up a can of worms for me. I am second-guessing my RAM, Storage, and even the motherboard.

I am not sure if I have picked out the right components, if my motherboard supports PCIe 4.0, or even if the storage supports PCIe 4.0, or if it actually matters ...

I would really appreciate if more well-informed individuals could offer comments my list of parts.

I am hoping to build a gaming + streaming pc, as well as a decent workstation as well.

Thank you!!!

But what about the other components like RAM and that Crucial P1? Are they actually compatible or recommended? I know I can get like a Trident ram or Samsung M.2, but if those work, I will prefer to save some money there and use it somewhere else. I read reviews and although the Samsung is definitely better than Crucial, it sounds like it is probably not that noticeable for everyday use.

QVL listing is just memory that has been verified to work, they did not test every single kit on the market with every single motherboard. And DRAM compatibly is no longer an issue like it was with 1st gen Ryzen, so this does not matter.

If you plan to stream I would recommend the 3700x, the 3600x can work but it will take some effort.

Do you need a WiFi motherboard? If not a few changed parts can allow you to get a better CPU.

Any quality SSD should work as well as another one, also I wouldn't worry a whole lot about memory compatibility, so long as it's ddr4 it should do just fine

Also, while yes x570 would be more future proof, if I'm not mistaken amd recently said that ryzen 4th gen would be compatible with x470 boards. Furthermore regarding your question about the crucial p1, I can recommend it, I was gonna get it but the sabrent rocket happened to be cheaper but crucial is a solid brand to buy from.

I figured if I am gonna get the latest Ryzen, I should make use of the latest chipset too right?

Unless you need pcie gen 4, you aren't really getting much more, or unless you are overclocking, but even then, from my experience you can't oc much with ryzen.

Any comments on the motherboard and GPU?

I am a little unsure about that GPU. It looks good, with 3 fans and all. But it is cheaper than others with 2 fans.

So I am not sure if I am making a good choice for a 2070 Super...

Depends, what do you want your games to play like? The Mobo is fine, the gpu is all dependent on how you want your games to look.

Thermal Grizzly's Kryonaut is a good thermal paste option, IC Graphite would a better option than traditional paste-based thermal compounds since it does not wear out as much and can even be reused. Although, I couldn't find it on PCPartsPicker's website.

Future proofing is not really a thing, we have no idea what/when a new product or industry standard will release that changes existing product compatibility (sometimes we do). For example DDR5 is soon to be the industry standard, like in 1-2 generations form now. An X570 board (other than PCIe 4.0) is really providing no added performance or real improvements over a good B450 motherboard, there is likely one more gen of AM4 CPU's to launch and that is all AMD has promised, regardless a new CPU (4th gen Ryzen) would work with a B450 board, subject to a bios update.

Overspending on memory for looks does absolutely nothing for performance, and the performance difference for most users from an NVME drive like the P1 vs a Samsung 970 evo will be indistinguishable.

Overall I like the parts you chose but I would go for something like this:

The 2070S is slightly better that an RX 5700Xt, but not by much, and it is not very good value. With new Nvidia cards coming later this year in my opinion it makes even less sense to get a 2060S/2070S/2080S. But if you really want the 2070S the one you chose will be good.

I have seen some build guide recommending the Team T Force RAM.

Are they comparable with the G.Skill ones?

I read somewhere about the die used being important, and since I am new to this, I am not sure if it is a good choice.

Also, isn't DDR4-3600 important to get the most out of the Ryzen CPU?

you can awlays overclock your ram to get it to 3600 mhz, also the die is nowhere near as important as it used to be with ryzen 1st gen. Any memory from a reputable brand should serve ya just fine.

i agree, to be honest, you dont even really NEED a nvme ssd, you could easily get away with a typical sata ssd, the only reason i got a nvme ssd is cause i had money in my budget to afford it, and i didnt feel like managing the sata cable, case in point, im lazy and i suck at cable management :p

From a price to performance standpoint, they are very similar to the G Skill ones and offer significantly better value for the cost in comparison. Unless you like a certain RAM model for aesthetics, I would recommend selecting RAM which offers good price to performance and is from a reputable manufacturer. The Team T-Force Delta RGB 16 GB (2x8) DDR4-3000 is a good choice, and overclocking is an option. For second generation and up Ryzen CPUs, the die being used is not as important.

hmmmmm... I will look into X470 motherboards then.

I am not sure if my other components support PCIe 4.0 even (do they???)

Is that X470 board a good mid tier board?

From a price to performance standpoint, they are very similar to the G Skill ones and offer significantly better value for the cost in comparison. Unless you like a certain RAM model for aesthetics, I would recommend selecting RAM which offers good price to performance. The Team T-Force Delta RGB 16 GB is a good choice.

From a price to performance standpoint that Gskill kit is the best $/GB 3600Mhz CL16 kit available.

hmmmmm... I will look into X470 motherboards then.

I am not sure if my other components support PCIe 4.0 even (do they???)

X470 is going to 'better' than B450. MSI 'Max' motherboards support 3rd gen Ryzen out of the box. And yes it is a good motherboard. The other good alternative is:

Other than PCIe 4.0 NVME drives, no nothing supports it yet.
