Help Please - Resurrect old Win7 boot

RobV1306

Maybe, but maybe in safe mode with networking it will work. And you can use phone activation too.

I wouldn't expect a phone call about win7 activation to end up with anything else than "lolnoitsdead"...

I'm a little confused as to how safe mode with networking will help? The main problem is that it will not recognise any network adapter at all - it will not find/accept the drivers.

Will booting into safe mode help it see the drivers I need to get my network adapters to work?

How are you trying to install the drivers? Got the proper installers?

Tbh, I took a bit of a stab in the dark. I copied all of my drivers from the Win10 build and dumped them into a folder on the Win7 drive, then pointed windows at that folder.

I admit that I was doubtful that my drivers from Win10 would also work with Win7. But I also wasn't sure how to go about getting the correct drivers. Any tips which might get me up and running? Currently, it cannot find drivers for basically anything. NONE of the USB ports on my tower work (including those on the motherboard I/O). The onboard ethernet doesn't work. It doesn't recognise my graphics card correctly (it is displaying through it but only on one screen and using a generic driver).

Any pointers?

Apologies for my noob-ness.

That is really strange. I swapped lot of time win7 between computers and never have that problems with drivers. Most of them was usually detected itself and few more (like USB) I must install manually. But all of them? Sorry, it's unusual. Chipset driver should solve most of problems. I'm talking about safe mode because you have some problem with normal boot.

Don't you know anything about your current system's components? If you get the motherboard model then you can go to the manufacturer's website and you'll get the drivers for all the onboard components, same for any other card/hardware you have...

Yeah, I know what I'm running - I built it myself recently. It's the firmware/drivers side of things that I'm less familiar with. I wasn't aware that I'd simply be able to download a bundle of drivers for my motherboard. I figured I'd have to know exactly what network adapter had been used to create my motherboard and that I'd have to go and individually download drivers for each of the parts soldered to my motherboard. If it's as simple as going to ASUS' website and downloading Win7 drivers for my mobo, that might be much easier. I'll give that a go. Hopefully, that'll then allow me to simply access the internet and get drivers for everything else.

Whether that'll fix the issue I have where it doesn't seem to want to let me boot into my actual user account, we'll have to see but I am guessing probably not.

You would also have usually gotten a CD with the drivers with the mobo.

Yeah I have got one but I've not got an optical drive.

Also, looking on ASUS' website, the board doesn't have drivers available to download for Win7!

Starting to despair a bit!

Of course not, anything newer than 4 years or so doesn't care about win7 anymore. But the win10 drivers might work.
