C Drive seems excessively full

Go to solution Solved by SupaKomputa,

it's normal, usually there's some cache files that are invisible in explorer.

some program leaves temporary without properly removing it.

use TreeSize to look up which folders are using those spaces.

Hey guys, I got a pop up the other day saying my C drive was nearly full and to remove some files.

Shocked, I looked into it and realised it was actually filling up. Didn't realise I some games installed there.

Anyway, of the 232GB of space it has, after cleaning up everything I don't need, it still only has 63gb free, meaning a large 170gb id being used up on what I feel like should be very little.

Steps I've taken so far:

Run windows defender which found nothing

Looked at disk which would save me a huge 60mb

Re looked at removing apps, but to be honest, the apps amount to around 2gb at most

Looked into files like pictures, downloads etc, all of which are empty

Now hitting properties on each folder within my drive is brings these results

Programme files = 2gb

x86 = 1.5gb

Programme date = 4.5gb

Users = 48gb (Of which, default and public amount to near nothing, only my actual user is high)

Windows = 21gb

Maybe this is a normal usage, it just feels really high, considering the only things I install on this drive other than windows is stuff like Chrome, Discord and other utility apps. Stuff like steam etc have their own drives.

Any suggestions? or is all good?

Thanks

You need to have a dig around the user files, maybe another profile is on there.

Also maybe there is a “windows.old” somewhere or maybe there are restore points taking up space?

This is another alternative to finding whatever files are sizable and need to be found/cleaned...

My experience on this topic happened with Adobe Project preview files being saved to the Adobe folder (old projects) and once cleared, all good.

I forgot to mention, I did look for a windows.old but that didn't exist. Thanks though

Interesting, I've just found this folder, and I've no idea what it even is

By the looks of it, it seems to do with something about Forza. I'll delve into this!

Thank you for such a usefull programme!

I've just shaved off 120gb off my C drive with a temp Fallout folder and some random old Forza files!
