Gutting HP Proliant DL360 G6 servers and upgrade/reusing case

I was just curious if anyone has ever reused the case for the rackmount function but with modern hardware to reuse the hard drive spaces?

 

Backplane recommendations?  CPU/motherboard recommendations,too?
