Hi guys.

What max R/W speed via its usb port, would I get installing nvme device in this enclosure?

https://gembird.com/item.aspx?id=10082

Theoretically, up to 5 gigabits/sec since that's what USB 3.0 is capable of under ideal conditions.

On their "Specifications" tab they list two possible chipsets that enclosure comes with, and both of them appear to be SATA III to USB.

It's probably going to be a bit less than that.

Please do not take offence for my apparent confusion or rudeness,it's not intent me to be like that,it's just my BPD,be nice to me,and I'll return twice better,be rude and usually I get easly pissed of...I'll try to help anyone here,as long as it's something I dealt with, and even if you think I'm rude or not polite, forgive me,  it's not me it's my BPD.

Thanks for understanding.

So only around 500 MB/s read write?

At most. 🤷‍♂️ You're not getting PCIe NVMe speeds out of a USB enclosure.

That sucks.

On the controller it is written usb 3.1 Gen1.

I supposed it max out that speed which is greater then 500MB/s.

So there is no enclosure which would give nvme speed over it?

Maybe type C enclosures?

USB 3.1 Gen1 is a 5 gigabit connection. Even if it was USB 3.1 Gen2, you'd still be capped by SATA III's 6Gbs/ speed.

A USB 4 or Thunderbolt enclosure, maybe.

What exactly are you trying to do, where 500 MB/sec is insufficient?

Not necessarily. USB C is a connector standard, not a connection standard. There devices with USB C connectors that only support USB 2.0 speeds.

I would like to point out, that this is M.2 NGFF so SATA to USB bridge enclosure (it was pointed out in the first reply in this thread), so 500MBps speeds are ok, since it's compatible with SATA III AHCI M.2 SSD, that usually can do 600MBps max (since it's sata)

are you sure you are looking for the right product, for your SSD?

What type of SSD you want to put in there?
what type, and speed do you have USB ports in your computer?

Usually 10Gbps (if they truly use Gen 2)

There is 20Gbps and above speed ones, but AFAIK the price starting to get kinda crazy starting from 20Gbps.

There is approximately 99% chance I edited my post
