Hello guys,

I am looking for a RAM upgrade right now and I need your help.

Right now I'm running a ryzen 1600 (3.8Ghz OC) on a Strix B350-F.

I'd like to upgrade from my 2x4GB 2400 kit to something faster with more capacity.

While searching, I came across a 16GB 3000 kit of G.Skill Trident Z neo and I love it.

Model No: G.SKILL F4-3000C16D-16GTZN

Will this run with my existing hardware? I heard that my platform is (or was?) a little picky with RAM and I'd like to hear your opinion/experiences before pulling the trigger.

Thanks in advance.

that kit is way too much for ryzen first gen.

It wasn't on the RAM support list from the manufacturer.  Here is the link to that: https://dlcdnets.asus.com/pub/ASUS/mb/SocketAM4/STRIX_B350-F_GAMING/ROG_STRIX_B350-F_GAMING_SummitCPUDDR4_DRAM_QVL20170520.pdf

The fact that the RAM isn't on the list doesn't necessarily mean, the RAM you picked won't work.  The list shows RAM your manufacturer actually tested with your board, so you can have greater confidence in it.

Also as long as you are upgrading you might as well consider 3200 speed.  Ryzen likes faster memory and the difference between the 3000 and 3200 speed Trident Z Neo was $5 according to PCpartpicker, so you aren't saving much by going with the slower speed.

just pick the cheapest 2x8 3000 ram you can find

it is first gen ryzen some kits won't be easy to get at that speed.

2nd or 3rd gen sure but 1st can be a pain

So are you saying I could use the F4-3000C16D-16GTZN kit at 2933 if i change the setting manually in the BIOS? (Should I update it?)

And thanks for your help so far!
