Folding@home using only my CPU not my 2 GPUs

I recently joined the Folding@home and try to help as much as I can.
I installed FAH as usual, but after a few hours I keep pressing fold on the GPU but the CPU is the only one working
My GPU statuses are marked READY but they are not even 1% utilized

At the moment there's a shortage of work units due to how many people are folding. Pretty common to be stuck waiting for available work units to download.

If you check the Logs tab it will give you more information, but most likely you'll see an error such as

09:25:35:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 65.254.110.245:8080
09:25:36:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '65.254.110.245:8080': No WUs available for this configuration
09:25:36:WU00:FS01:Connecting to 18.218.241.186:80
09:25:37:WARNING:WU00:FS01:Failed to get assignment from '18.218.241.186:80': No WUs available for this configuration
09:25:37:ERROR:WU00:FS01:Exception: Could not get an assignment

Click on the waiting GPU slots. On the right panel in the advanced control it should say
Waiting On
Attempts:
Next Attempt:

How many attempts has it made and when is the next attempt?

If you go into 'Log' in the program, does it say something like:

WARNING:WUXX:FSXX:Failed to get assignment from xxxxx: No WUs available for this configuration

?

If so, that means there aren't any WU's available. That is because currently there are more users than WU's available. Just gotta be patient, you should get one some time.

Also, in Task Manager there are different sort of 'usage' graphs for the GPU. The default one would not show F@H usage.

On AMD cards you have to go to one of the 'compute' tabs to see F@H usage:

image.png.61bb940e0c861c7b4ac1b4caa6a4df37.png

There could be multiple 'Compute' tabs, like 'Compute_0', 'Compute_1', etc.

Just cycle through them to see which shows usage (once you get a WU that is).

Only after you get a WU, you will see the usage there.

You're probably getting that warning I said at the beginning of my post, in the 'Log' part, which indicates it doesn't have anything to do yet

Do you have the viewer open running the demo showing the protein bouncing around? The viewer is broken and will cause that error message.

The other error you're getting us No WUs available... Pretty common problem everyone is facing at the moment due to the shortage of WUs.

Yeah... It doesn't work. It'll forever be stuck on the demo run.
Just close that viewer and you'll stop getting the "An established connection was aborted by the software in your host machine..." error message.

Yeah, there's not as many GPU work units to go around.

Your client is showing that it won't check for a new GPU work unit for 30+ minutes. If it has failed to obtain a work unit multiple times it slows down the time between checks to stop systems from effectively DDoS'ing their servers trying to download work units.
Hit the Pause button, wait 20-30 seconds and then resume the client and it should force it to look for a new work unit. Won't guarantee you'll get one as there is a lot of demand for work units at the moment and they can't keep up, but it'll at least check to see if there are any available. This will reset the clock for checking for work units as well, so you'll only need to do this if you haven't been able to get a work unit for a few hours. (Repeatedly pausing/resuming won't help).

BTW LinusTechTips has its own folding team if you are interesting in joining. Team ID is 223518.

Same, on my laptop and desktop :/

Been like this for the last week or so.

image.png.df282716739e352cf86b7f3358b4ed02.png

That is my points per day dropping from a good ~1 million per day, to below half a million and less, just because I am just not getting any work units.

People have said there would be more work units to be released, but I have not noticed that yet.

I turn off my PC and laptop at night, so already have a 'natural turn off/on' point. My desktop did get a WU this morning, but my laptop has not.

EDIT: after failing to find a WU for another time, my laptop did find something to do! Woo!

Damn!
Unfortunately there's just not enough WUs to go around at the moment (which I guess is a good thing because so many people are folding, but also very frustrating if you can't get a WU). Resetting it won't make any new work units magically appear, it'll just tell your client to try to look for one that is available.

If you can check it again in an hour or two and if it's still stuck searching just reset it again. About the best you can really do at the moment.

Is there a benefit to enabling the IGP to use it for FAH? System keeps prioritizing my IGP as the first and no matter I configure, it sets my main rx 480 as secondary, while the Vega 8 as primary

Is there a benefit to enabling the IGP to use it for FAH? System keeps prioritizing my IGP as the first and no matter I configure, it sets my main rx 480 as secondary, while the Vega 8 as primary

I have no idea. Not sure how the Vega 8 iGPUs perform. I know the intel iGPUs do not work at all for folding.

Or am I just better of with a single GPU system and disabling my IGP?

Most likely. With the quad core 2200G I would disable the CPU and iGPU and use only the RX480. Shown in your client with the 2 cores on the CPU running it's estimating <3000 points per day for the CPU. The RX480 should give you around 300,000 points per day (assuming it can find work units). Not really worth running the CPU considering how little it gives you.
If you don't want to use the CPU just let it finish the work unit it's currently on and then you can delete the slot for it. If the Vega 8 iGPU doesn't have an active work unit you can delete its slot now.

I guess, it wasn't worth enabling the IGP

Did you delete any of the slots?

That error message would usually be if it can't find the GPU. I had the same message yesterday after I pulled a graphics card out of the system while it was still added as a slot in the client.

Exit the client.
Go to

...\AppData\Roaming\FAHClient\config.xml

and under "<!-- Folding Slots -->"  delete the lines that say

<slot type="GPU" id="1"/>
<slot type="GPU" id="2"/>

Save the file and try opening the client again.

(Or alternatively just uninstalling F@H client and reinstall)

I have a similar problem, but also under the system info tab it says that neither the 'nvcuda.dll' module nor the 'openCL.dll' module were found.

I'm running an i5-6600K and a Radean R9 390. (so the missing CUDA is no surprise, but the other one should show up). Might this also be problem or does that not matter?
