Better bang for buck alternatives than the Asus Radeon RX 580 8GB ROG STRIX Video Card??

Yeah title speaks for itself, I'm not sure what is better at or around that price point. Was also wondering if this card is capable of running VR comfortably and if there is another card for that purpose.

Assuming USD here, the Asus Strix RX 580 8GB is $223, a better bang for the buck is the Sapphire Pulse RX 580 8GB for $180 or the MSI Armor X RX 580 8GB for $175, effectively they will provide the same performance as the Strix card. So if you want to spend $220ish might as well get a PowerColor Red Dragon RX 590 8GB for $195, so a better card. Or if you can afford to get the Gigabyte Windforce OC RX 5600XT 6GB for $280 that gets you onto the Navi architecture.

You should only be buying 8GB RX 580s used at this point for like $100 or less

hard to beat at that price still I think, 5500 XT was it's replacement.

I've seen a lot of people recommend going AMD for CPU and NVIDIA for GPU these days, do you have any solid recommendations for a GPU at or around the price point of the RX 580 listed above, that has better performance?

What's your budget/country?

AMD has more features overall at the moment, and the best value mid range card with the RX 5700, because for some reason 2060 super prices are high.

for low end cards a used RX 470/480/570/580 8GB is $100-120 and hard to beat in value.

Where do you get this information?

The 5700 and 2060 are about exactly the same in price but the 5700 falls short of the 2060 in performance.

Used RX 580 is slower than a GTX 980. Probably find one of these used for roughly 100$ these days. (granted the 980 uses more power.....)

Used GTX 1060 would be better bang for buck than any AMD gpu offered in suggestion here.

Budget I'm not quite sure yet, it all depends on my paychecks over summer but definitely in the $600-$800 range. Ik that's kind of broad lol but in my area of the US prices fluctuate all the time and by the time June-July hits I'm not sure how much graduation money I'll get coupled with work. Rn just trying to find the right base of CPU and GPU that will suit my needs. :)

Well you don't need to spend that much, RX 5700s are only ~$300, buy like a 1440p 100-120hz ultrawide monitor at some point, monoprice makes one for around $350-400

The cheapest 5700, which should have fixed thermal pads by now is $270, $300 for normal average models otherwise

Super? standard 2060 is still faster than the 5700.

The Super version costs more because it has more cuda cores.

RTX 2060 is only $289 for EVGA at newegg with promo -30 bucks.

The 5700 will be faster than the 2060 in general, and is like a couple % behind the super and then like +5% to the 2070.

XT isn't usually worth it unless it's within like $20-40 max.

They're all basically in the same tier. Just depends on what features you want, though it doesn't seem like ray tracing went anywhere just yet.

I'd guess the extra 2gb of memory helps out in this case. I get the supers and non xt's all mixed up sometimes. My apologies. Definitely the same tier.

Is this good? Bad? Any changes you would make?

Good, but for a little more you can get a much better motherboard and PSU, which will be better in the long run.
