What's going on with this monitor's resolution..

nelska

It's a 1600x900 monitor resolution but when you go to max output on nvidias control panel it gives 1280x720 as "max resolution". I understand its because 720 is as close to hd as 1600x900 can get but I feel like the monitor's being underpowered at the native resolution.. Should I go out and buy a better monitor? I don't like it in 1600x900 and at 1280x720 its blurfest.

You just need to spend a few more seconds at looking your display. I mean, the 1600x900 resolution option IS RIGHT THERE, visible in your own screenshot.

What video card do you use?

Is this a new issue?

I know but if you choose it. It feels like when you set your tv to the wrong display. and I hate it. its default wanting to use "max display output resolution" at 1280x720. or it'll default to like shit mode.i duno i cant explain it i got a new monitor but its junk cuz i didnt know it came with speakers so now i have a 1080p 244hz monitor i dont want because it said nowhere on the box it came with speakers.

Sounds like you need to change your display's settings on the display itself, then; the 1600x900 native - option is the correct one you should be using.

Why is it a problem that it's got speakers? No one's forcing you to use them.

What? Why is built in speakers such a bad thing? You literally don't even have to use them if you don't want, it's simple sound/device settings in Windows. Pretty much every high end gaming monitor comes with built in speakers so if that's a turn off for you then you're shit out of luck.

I don't understand the issue. Even if the display has speakers, you can just simply choose to use whatever you use now -- no sound would be coming out of the display!

right click on your speakers icon, select Playback devices ... , then select your regular speakers on your sound card.

You don't have to leave the HDMI output (going to the speakers inside your monitor) as default audio output

As for the resolution, either select 1600x900, or click on that Customize button and specify the resolution yourself.

I'm not familiar with nvidia control panel options as I had AMD video cards for years, but look through the options and make sure your video card outputs RGB or YCbCr 4:4:4  ... and make sure the color format is Unlimited / Full RGB or Unlimited Full YCbCr  not  Limited/Studio.

If it's YCbCr 4:2:0 then some colors may not be right, that's especially visible on subtitles over some red background.

If the output is Limited/Studio, then the colors may be a bit washed out.

Your LCD's NATIVE resolution is 1600x900, unless you're an idiot and got it wrong. MOST other resolutions will force the monitor to resize each picture it has to show, and because of this the image will look blurry.

SOME monitors give you the option in their OSD panel (the menu you see on screen) to not stretch/resize the input resolution so if you do that, you will simply see black bars around the image but the image will be sharp because it's exactly as the video card sends it.

This can be the default behavior for resolutions where one dimension is the exact size of the panel, for example something like 1600x800 or 1600x720 (you would see black bars on top and bottom of the screen)

If you can't find those options, then most likely the output is configured for Full / Unlimited
