Converting to the better side of audio.

KoshInated

Hi.

I'm looking to buy new headphones, my "old" razer tiamat 7.1 suddenly snapped, I have been such a razer fanboy, but now it's time for a change.

I'm looking to buy headphones, but not razer or beats. My budget is about $200, and it's important that the headphones can take a beating.

I've read the forum FAQ about audio, and I think I'm looking towards a pair of closed headphones. I listen mostly to rap/hip-hop and some EDM.

I am a dedicaded gamer, and I love playing CS:GO, where we need to inform eachothers about the enemys position, so if someone could tell me about a good desk microphone that would be great.

One last minor detail, I despise velour/cloth earcups, don't know, but I do...

Good desk Microphone: Blue Yeti Snowball. I can't help you on the headphones though. I'm not good at that.

Beyerdynamic DT 770 would be the most durable option, but they come with velour pads. You can get replacement Pleathers, and then sell off the velour if you really don't like them.

Then again there is also the V-Moda Crossfade LP, though it is very bass heavy, much like your old Razers. You can get a V-Moda BoomPro as a mic if you want something more like a headset, but obviously better.

For a microphone, unless you're doing recording, a Yeti or Snowball is really overkill, a Blue Snowflake is more than enough.

Now, for the headphones, may I just ask why you think you want a closed pair of headphones? are you in a noisy environment, or are you planning on using the headphones when out and about? If so, closed is the way to go, but I'm not that sure about the DT770's and V-Moda's that ShearMe mentioned, they don't have very good mids, so gunshots and footsteps won't be as clear as most open headphones, like the DT990 (arguably better than DT770's), HD558 or (if you won't be bothered by the lack of bass) AD700X.

I think I maybe go with a DT990's, I know they are opened and has cloth earcups, but I got to try them, and they were so good.

And for the mic, I'm thinking, maybe a snowball.

If anyone still has knowledge a good pair of headphones, please inform me.

Got a snowball, love it, best investment in terms of audio quality that I've made so far.

Well, in Norway the Snowball is the cheaper option! Its about 30$ cheaper! But it's still Norway so we pay loads for it anyway...

Everything I post is based of bits and pieces I've read somewhere else.

I have most likely never tested any of the things I recommend or advise against.

Think of me as a information relay, I read it, process it, then post it.
